im only 23 but I have had quite a few different jobs mainly because I work construction as an Industrial Electrician & you bounce from company to company (Lay Offs, Job ends, etc). I know all the companies I worked for & I know estimated dates for when I worked for them. so when I do applications online for trucking when they get in the process of verifying employment if they were to call all my employers to verify say I put I worked there from oct 2013 - May 2014 but then they call the company & they say I worked there from November 2013 to April 2014. Would this cause the company to kick me from their CDL training school?? Would they look at me like a Lier because the dates were not correct or are they looking just to see if employees actually worked for these companies in general & are not just trying to make something up or trying to fill in the gaps for the times they were not working at all? Thanks!

There is no statutory requirement for a carrier or school to actually verify employment history. Some do some don't. To be honest most just pull your DAC and check. Just be as honest as you can remember and if there is a problem get it fixed if and as soon as you can. A bad employment history has the potential to really screw you up.
Thull Thanks this. -
You need a 10 yr job history, but only the previous 3 need be "verified". An exception of course is a youngster where the previous 10 would bring him back to age 13. Just do your best on dates. I might add it's to your advantage to start a diary NOW with start/stop dates and employer info, so when you apply at age 45, you have the needed info at hand.

(b) All employers shall request the information specified in paragraph (c) of this section from all persons applying for employment as a commercial motor vehicle operator. The request shall be made at the time of application for employment.
(c) The following employment history information for the 10 years preceding the date the application is submitted shall be presented to the prospective employer by the applicant:
(1) A list of the names and addresses of the applicant's previous employers for which the applicant was an operator of a commercial motor vehicle;
(2) The dates the applicant was employed by these employers; and
(3) The reason for leaving such employment.
(d) The applicant shall certify that all information furnished is true and complete.
(e) An employer may require an applicant to provide additional information.
(f) Before an application is submitted, the employer shall inform the applicant that the information he/she provides in accordance with paragraph (c) of this section may be used, and the applicant's previous employers may be contacted for the purpose of investigating the applicant's work history.
The above is the only FMCSA rule I know of on this topic. I bold typed and underlined the part I was speaking about in my first post. There is no rule mandating the verification.Thull Thanks this. -
The 10 year requirement only cover jobs where you were a driver !!!! That being said most employers are still going ro want 10 years of work history anyway but it's not required

You will b fine dude. What gets people in trouble is when they are trying to 'hide' something or try to be flat out dishonest. If you are trying to remember and are off a bit people know you are on the up and up. Good luck, Bro.
Bob Dobalina and Thull Thank this. -
Yea, how many people know the exact dates anyway?
-
Not many, heck, I miss my anniversary sometimes. Even missed my wife's birthday. I can't remember any dates.NavigatorWife, Thull and ajohnson Thank this. -
