Ether is yer friend when it's cold

Just a thought here, Could the spring in the fuel return check valve be cold enough that it is letting the check valve open enough to lower the fuel pressure low enough not to start, this might be a sign of a check valve going bad. Don't enough cold days down here in Texas to test this theory. Good luck!

Finally got it running about 4 yesterday idk weather it was ice in the lines or not it ran rough...very rough for about an hour or so it'd run about 700 and drop to about 4 or 300 and come back to life did that for about 45 minutes and then smoothed out had. I'm wondering if ice wasn't possibly the culprit as wore out stated. I run half tanks all the time so it's a good possibility with the condensation I suppose. Be the last time I believe a bottle of additive that says removes water from fuel. Might just finally be time to bite the bullet and not shut the trucks off for the next couple months.
It started today without a hitch but it's also 33 right now I'll be #### happy when winter is over. Thanks for the help everyone be safe out there. -
Yeah, running half tanks in the winter is not a good idea. More likely to get condensation that way. If you do it because of a weight issue, you would be better off to just shut off / disable the other tank.

That's why dragging the extra 1000lbs of fuel just doesn't make sense I need to get a shut off valve for the pass tank and plumb it into the return line to shut that tank off completely just haven't got around to it.
Kinda makes a guy miss the single draw single return systems, air wipers, etc from the old days. I didn't have the problem as much last year because I knew what was going on and I was just pulling a box, now it's grain mixed with a box deal so I can't just fill the truck and go still be dragging 200+ gallons and the extra weight just ain't worth the headache after everybody beat the rates down. -
I think the guys suggesting icing were correct.
When the tanks get low, dump a pint of alcohol in each tank. Just regular rubbing alcohol. Its hygroscopic, which means it attracts and holds water, that helps pull the water out of the collection points in the system.
21 years and that is the only "additive" I've ever used.

I've heard of guys doing that just never knew how much to add I'd imagine it can't be any worse than a gallon or 2 of unleaded in each tank which I've had to do before. I dumped a bottle of air line antifreeze in them last year as it started to gel going down the road.
I'll keep that in mind thanks for the advise it seems as though it's going to be a very long winter -
be careful running it with fuel lines froze up for a long period. it will starve the injectors of fuel and score the plungers in the injectors.
SAR Thanks this.
