I'M in need of a little help.
I run from New Jersey to Peabody Massachusetts and it's a 5 hour ride one way. That's a clean run without any traffic. The time I leave it's usually like this. The stop can hold me up from an hour to two.
Now my problem is coming back, I need to take the Cross-Bronx... This could add an easy hour to two. and that's not including any other traffic that I run into on the way back in the areas of Boston, MA, Providence, RI, New Haven, CT, Stanford, CT, New Rochelle, NY, Co-op City Bronx, NY and any other traffic areas, road construction or accidents that I come across.
I have logged up to 16 hours on this run and want to know if it's legal to put yourself "off duty" when at your stop. I read that you can log off duty as long as you are relieved from duty at a stop.
Thanks

try this! start your log as usual, log your hours like you normally do. at the end of the day(or if you are close to running out of hours) tear the page out of your log book. RE log your entire day using mileage and the speed limit. if you ran 300miles than it took you 5 hrs. dont ever log traffic or any other hold ups. do not do this in route however. this is not legal!!!! but at the end if you would like to buy yourself driving hours this is what I would do. THIS IS NOT LEGAL AND IS MERELY A SUGGESTION OR OPINION. As team drivers my wife and I constantly run out of hours so at the end of each day we re write our logs to maximize our time. If you do this while you are driving and run into an unordinarily smart dot officer they may question you about it.

One problem,,,,,,,,,,,, it's a day cab ! can I still log off duty with a day cab? -
always run a loose leaf or remove the staples and take them out. make sure you mix up all the blank log pages so that the numbers dont coincide(or arent in sequence) mixing up loose leaf logs is not illegal. they do not have to be in sequence. also white out is legal, but it can bring up unnessasary questions. remember to only log 15 minutes on duty at a shipper. even if it takes all day.
as far as anyone is concerned you where in the crapper for three hours while they unloaded you.
