How does home time work? If the company doesn't have any terminals in Louisiana. So if I request to go home do you get sent to some other terminal like 5-8 hours away & if so do you have to provide your own transportation home? Just curious. I randomly just thought of this.

Alot of companies will let ya take truck and trailer home if you have a secure place to park it.
Longarm Thanks this. -
Barring being able to take the trailer home you could get a load close to home that is a drop delivery.
You would still need a good place to park the truck at home.
Most places are not considered high risk areas, so usually in your driveway or on the street is fine if there is room.
If there is a nearby truck stop you could park it there for a few days without a problem. -
Most companies you'll deliver fairly close and then drive home and find a place to park.
Storage Places/Truck Stops stuff like that.
Some companies are funny and they have specific rules on where they want you to park. -
I have told new drivers for years now regardless of company policy to find a secure place as close to home as you can to park. Get it approved. You will need this for an emergency and if you happen to be close to home to get your clothes washed etc etc. Stay in communication with your fleet manager through out, you will be surprised what a good fleet manager will let you do.

As far as parking goes, some repair shops offer parking, for a fee. If you can't park it at home, it might be worth a shot to call a couple mechanics and ask.

Back when I lived a few miles down a mud pit, errrr dirt road, I got approval to park my truck and trailer at the local truck wash. Huge parking lot, and I just kept it in the back corner. I'd stop by every day and run the engine to make sure the batteries stayed charged, fuel thawed, etc.... Then on the days I was supposed to head out, I'd let it run while I was across the street at the grocery store getting supplies for the week.
Mind you, I was on a dedicated account, and so I would be home from Friday night to Sunday morning, typically. -
One other thing to consider is that if you park your tractor some distance from the spot where you pick up the tank/trailer etc you will be clocking driving time that reduces your time to get to your location or back home when you return. I make a dedicated run to Ohio routinely from Clemson SC and barely have enough time to get the tractor back home. When you run out of drive time you are kind of stuck until you do a reset.
ethos Thanks this.
