I could tolerate a driver facing camera only if it is one I installed myself that only records but never "live feeds" or transmits back to the company. It would be used only for the purpose of covering my behind in the case of an incident. If no incident occurs, I erase that day's data and record fresh the next day. If something happens where I can use the camera's data to clear me, then I could choose the pertinent data to share with the company. This way it would make it impossible for any safety department to nitpick my minor driving habits. This method would make it a win-win situation for everyone.

Machinists regularly run quarter million dollar (or more) machines that'll kill them or the guy next to them in a heartbeat......

It has everything to do with the quote. Dollar figures are irrelevant. #### near anybody who uses equipment heavier than a desktop pc is being trusted with thousands of dollars(tens, hundreds, etc) and most all of it is dangerous!!!!!!

What if that machinist ####s up a 777 landing gear? What if a construction worker screws up a high rise demo? Get off your #### high horse. Trucking is quite hazardous....but so are many other trades.

re the driver-facing camera: get you a selfie stick and modify it so that you can mount a realistic pic of yourself smiling and holding the wheel with both hands. See how long it takes 'em to notice they are looking at a pic lol

Talked to a Conway driver today
He said They do have the cameras in their trucks and Alot of drivers are turning the job down when they find out about it

Companies like this are claiming this is about safety and blah blah blah .... what they are not telling you is they are getting nice kick backs from insurance companies
And they are using the cameras to put heat on the drivers

He also said he was going to quite working for Conway after 17 yrs of service ( not because of the cameras) for other reasons and I did not ask
.... I for one refuse to drive with a camera or an automatic or for less $ or anything kind of something that stinks like this ideal

Some could argue Driver Cams are a violation of Individual Privacy....but the individual submits to being recorded by simply being employed as an operator of the company equipment assigned, rented, owned or leased to the driver. Where is the law that allows Employers to infringe on an individual's right to privacy?

Will driver cams reduce accidents? That has yet to be proven since there is very little data to analyze.

Now comes the obvious, how far are you willing to go when companies install Electronic On Board Recording devices including E-logs and Cameras?

It's time to push back by refusing to accept this as part of your employment.

Personally I am not willing to surrender any of my freedom or liberty or personal rights to privacy!
