Just going with the odds, that's all. I hired one of the big fleets to move 5 loads per week for a month one time, what a nightmare. You get a different driver in every day, basically clueless for the most part. Now I have an easy rotation of the same few Owner Ops, much better in every way.
One of our drivers was shot delivering a trailer

I wasn't sure about current gun laws in California I think the northeast is probably worse. California used to be a great place to live. I would not want to live in the state today. If I did live there, I would be spending my time trying to throw out the communists who have been making the state like a third world country. It is a much different place that back in the 70's and 80's.

If somebody killed me Id come back and kill them twice.
No, but sad to hear this about the driver. I don't carry a gun in my truck personally, and don't feel the need to. You just have to have self awareness. Remember this is a big country with all types of people. Good and bad and they can be white, black, foreign, young, old. Places like detroit or really small creepy times get my truck rolling in right on schedule, and I make sure I know exactly where to turn etc so I don't get caught make a wrong turn to a bad street. I sleep at more of populated areas and mind my own business at truck stops. If I can park at the delivery I'll know and I'll still look at the area and if it's safe.
It's sad that we need to look over our shoulder when we go to sleep but this is reality, and it's better to be safe by being cautious and self aware. -
JUST SO YOU KNOW. THERE IS NO FEDERAL LAW SAYING THAT A TRUCK DRIVER CANNOT CARRY HIS FIREARM IN HIS TRUCK. THERE ARE STATE LAWS, I HAVE A CCW AND SOME OF THE STATES I GO TO ALLOW ME TO CARRY AS LONG AS I FOLLOW THEIR LAWS. I WOULD RATHER BE JUDGED BY 12 LAW ABIDING FAMILY LOVING PEOPLE, THEN BE CARRIED TO MY GRAVE BY SIX. YOU MIGHT LOOK INTO IT IF YOU HAVE WORRIES YOURSELF

Myself i wasnt there....however the driver stated in the past he was allowed to park on site. (Prior history cant be dismissed quickly). The drivers actions r shaped by appointment times, driving distances, hours of service & prior history of Company.
To put these questions to a jury will assist in making the incident clear.
Sample: Broker hires a Owner Operator based solely on whose the cheapest Trucking Company by first dismissing other Trucking Companies whom request higher wage. During the subsequent freight movement that same Trucking Company is involved in a fatality accident. Its uncovered this Trucking Company used a Run it Till Its Ragged maintenance model never reinvesting the revenue generated back into the equipment to strengthen safety. Using this Model a Jury has found the Brokerage Firm Culpable for the fatality accident.Studebaker Hawk Thanks this. -
If I'm going to a major urban area, I park at least an hr outside of it and shut it down the night before appt. If I'm going to run out of hours delivering, I get the appt reworked. I'm not sleeping in the hood, near the hood, or an hr within a hood. Simple as that.
