First of all I have over 20 years on the road, LONG haul. Well over 2 million miles and no chargeable accidents.
I'm putting that out there so you know I've been around not telling stories.
I recently met a friend that drives for a contractor for FedEx Ground, the wiggle wagons you see everywhere. FedEx does NOT own a single truck. They have over 18,000 contractors (Fleet Owners) nationwide. The job is great, easiest trucking you'll ever do! No shippers, receivers, loading docks, PERIOD! Line haul, thats it. Drive from hub to hub, drop, hook, and book!!!
I've done many jobs in trucking over the years, and by far this is the best ever, especially with today's trucking industry taking advantage of the rookies that never get home and are paid the same as i was back in 1989! SCREW THAT!
All you need is one year of experience in the last 3 years with a good driving record to be approved by "FedEX" to work for one of their contractors. There's both solo and team operations, long haul and local, most with a set schedule. They have what they call a "wild board" which is teams running everywhere.
Trick is to find the hub nearest you and find find out who the contractors (fleet owners) are and go from there.
And DO MAKE SURE the contractor you may choose takes out taxes and offers benefits! Some don't, they 1099 you and you know the rest if you're familiar with that scenario.
I just wanted to let people know about this who otherwise may have no idea. I'm 50 years old and have been trucking all over the USA for a long time for many different companies, and as an owner-operator.
This is the BEST GIG I've found, and plan on retiring from it.
Remember, ONLY 1 year experience!!!!!!!
Check into this!!!!

Yea. I got one fleet owners number that's got 12 trucks that does that. I was going to work for him but he said his drivers averaged 950 a week. I'm from California, I get taxed a lot. need more pay than 950 a week. This was a year ago though.

I have a friend who drives a day cab for a contractor in Indy; he loves his gig. Home daily, weekends off, enough money and time to have a family life. I enjoy OTR but that door is open for me if I ever want a normal home life type job.

I'll admit, line haul is probably one of the easiest trucking jobs, the down side, is it's incredibly boring. ( kind of like dump truck) I had a line haul from Madison, Wi. to Milwaukee, 2 loads a night. WHEW!
One time I was at the Tomah Truck Stop in the Badger and an ABF truck pulling doubles pulls up next to me. Air brakes go on, door opens, and this elderly, heavyset woman ( could be someone's grandma) get's out, waddles over to the 5th wheel, pulls the pin, takes off the lines and get's back in and heads for the restaurant.

I'm really glad its a good fit for you. We're lucky to have you.

You've driven that long and never knew this was out there? Quite hard to believe.

I've always wanted to do this, but it seems like the money is in the teams.. I won't team drive ever again and the solo guys I have talked to over the years seem to be making anywhere from $650/week to $1250/week. Obviously depending on location
When I lived in Fl there was a good gig going from Orlando to Colton and back . Same route, same pay,3 days off after the run,W2 with benefits , but I couldn't do the team thing -
I had an owner contact me the other day. I have about 50 questions I ask, we are on the phone for 15-20 minutes until he drops the bomb "teams only". Fed Ex apparently decides if it is solo or team run.
-
Most of the runs I know of are teams. But its not teams like otr teams. You're home 2-3 nights a week. Its not for everyone, true. But the money is decent and the hometime is good. And it is easy money.

What is the money for the truck..? Teams or singles. Anyone know..$$$
