Did you touch the hot iron, like I did?
I also stepped into the fire, just to feel what it felt like.
Yes, I did, both times.
Simply because someone told me not to.

A local delivery job with some place like USF or Old Dominion would be pretty good.
Then of course there's also construction companies and getting on with a garbage company.
As bad as the job's been treating you, I'd say the best thing to do is find a way to stick with it in a way that works for you.
Some people want more money, some of us want a little more free time.
A balance could always be met if you know how to budget your funds just right.
Someone could make $1500-$2500/mo and not be completely broke at the end of each month.
Someone could be bringing in $4000-$6000/mo and still be hurting for an extra buck at the end of the week.Marky84 Thanks this. -
That was me as a kid. Hard headed.. stubborn.. if I was told no.. I needed to discover for myself why. Often with severe consequences.
Some things in life we need to figure out on our own. We can show our kids the easy road.. its up to them to take it.

If only it were that simple.
I've submitted well over two dozen applications / resumes and about half of those have resulted in interviews. In one case, a delivery position with a local (70 in-state locations) restaurant chain, the interviewing manager became very rude and snippy with me when I told him I have one evening class from 19:30 - 20:45 on Tuesday and Thursday through the end of May. He responded with "Well, I don't know if I can guarantee that you'll be able to make it to your classes every week. Besides, I would love to go back to school but I can't! I have a mortgage, bills to pay, and I just couldn't do it so you MUST have some system that allows you to pay your bills and go to school so I don't think we'll be offering this position to you instead of someone who actually needs the job."
Another place, a large national chemical / industrial gas supplier, wanted to send me to Dallas for two weeks and asked if that would be a problem. I told them it would and then they became visibly agitated and asked why it would be a problem. I had already told them about my school schedule prior to the interview but I reminded them that if I were to go to Dallas for two weeks that I would miss all of my classes four times which would result in me being dropped from every single one of them. The interviewing manager, which is also who I told several times that I am a student, followed up with "The training is required and if you aren't willing to cooperate with us then the interview is over." and just walked out of the room.
Several other interviewers have been much nicer in that regard, but the net result is usually the same. They can't guarantee that I would be back in time to be able to get to my one class (the rest are online) or they want to run me up to the 11 / 14 hours.
I did, however, find a student employment position at UNM Hospital in the radiology department. They're looking for an IT major which is what I am so I'll be interviewing with that department on Friday. Since it is listed as a student position, the pay won't be as much as I would make in a trucking job, but they will accommodate my class schedule.bentstrider83 Thanks this. -
Welecome to life in on planet earth....I 've seen 8 year old kids heading out to the field , to work the field for $2 a day Guatemala I seen families that live in the garbage dump with only a tarp over their head to protect them from the elements. And we whine cause we don't have a.c. or can't make 200k a year....I am so tired of all the whiney soft hand pansies of my generation. If I could I live on a farm and raise my children in same manner. I would thank GodLast edited: Jan 19, 2016

You can't expect an employer to do cartwheels. You're basically telling him I only want to work here until I graduate and then I'm leaving. Why would he invest time in training?

I think you're taking what I wrote out of context. I wasn't "whining" about anything, rather I was merely relating a personal experience and pointing out that it's not as simple as walking into your local fuel hauling outfit and hopping in a truck while at the same time expecting them accommodate your needs. There are employers that are willing to do so but you generally won't find them in this industry.
Nor am I expecting a potential employer to do cartwheels.
I let them know early in the application / interview process what my needs are and ask if they are willing to accommodate those needs. So far I've had two places tell me straight up that they can't and that's perfectly fine, keeps us from wasting each other's time. Both of the employers I posted about earlier knew ahead of time what my class schedule was and said they would be willing to work with me on it so I set up the interviews. During the interview it was a totally different thing and that means I wasted my time and gas getting there and they wasted their time by interviewing someone that has zero chance of working there.
I'm not mad or upset about any of it, and to be honest, I was expecting exactly the kind of issues I'm dealing with since I know how the trucking industry works. It's also the reason why I didn't limit myself to applying for just trucking jobs once my class schedule was finalized.rank Thanks this.
