If you've got the experience, I would keep an eye out for any particular company running day-cabs.
The companies mentioned above all sound good at first, but with the nature of sleeper berths, I wouldn't be too surprised if home-time/time-off requests get shoved to the side on a consistent basis.
I've been doing the day-cab thing for a little over four years now.
I've been on a few, over-night runs where I've stayed in a motel for a ten-hour, and then headed back home.
But overall, even though the hours and days are quite irregular, I feel a little more secure knowing I'm always close to the house and town for when things need to get done.
That said, time to hit up the writing labs and general tutoring labs when I get off of work.
First week of slowly retaking general ed has been a bit of a mind-boggle.
But, this time around, I'm taking full advantage of whatever help is available to get the job done without whigging out like I did in the past on this matter.Marky84 Thanks this. -
im a bit nervous about daycab jobs, as when i did it at USF Holland and then at Saia, i was extremely sleep deprived
-
You worked for Holland too? Good Lord I thought I had them all.
-
yea ive been around
-
Sounds enough like a normal job to me.
10-12 hour shifts, five days a week.
Yeah, a sleeper might be convenient, but the thought of being a constant nomad just kills any joy that might have. -
Don't lease a truck; especially from a company that controls your dispatch. All you are doing is switching handcuffs.
I'm currently driving local as a lease driver up to 4 1/2 days a week and spending the rest of my time earning my on line Bachelors in Social work. I will immediately pursue my Masters also. I don't know what your personal responsibilities are. e.g. Mortgage, family, car etc. But I do know that you can do it if you are willing to make sacrifices. I've been driving for 35 years. I'm 57 and I'm doing it. You can too!Marky84 Thanks this.
