If you wrote the HOS, how would you do it?

If u can achieve your 1 million safe miles status then you would be exempt from hos rules You would still have to keep a log book But if you have a preventable accident then you go back to having to abide by hos
Hopefully that would cause drivers to actually work towards being safe to achieve that exemption and to keep it and companies pay a premium to have the flexibility of million milers on the payroll
There's many days after putting in 700 miles I could hook to another set of trailers and do another 700 Other days not I know when that time isOriginal Bender Thanks this. -
I'd like to see a 11 hour max work time per day, including on-duty and driving time. All time at shippers or receivers must be logged as on-duty. If otr, at least one rest period in a 7 day schedule must be taken in a hotel. If local, and you work the full 11 hours, but feel too tired to drive home at the end of your shift company must supply you a ride home and then back to work the next day.

First, I'd do away with lines 2 and 4 except for team operations, who would still have the sleeper birth option. You're either on-duty or off duty. I'm ok with the 14 hour clock, but you are free to use it how you see fit. No 11 hour limit on the actual driving time. The other thing is that the half hour DOT mandated waste of time break would pause the 14 hour clock instead of counting against it like it does now. Keep the 34 hour reset as it is.

NO HOS for single truck owner operators. If a carrier can't operate safely under it's own accord it's shutdown. Will to survive will keep them in check. I didn't sign away my rights to privacy when I got my CDL and having to log every minute of every day of my life is a blatant violation of that right to privacy as an American Citizen.
All the HOS are is labor laws. They have no place for the single truck owner operator for sure. Who's going to push me to work more than I want to? Noone. If I don't feel like working I don't...Original Bender Thanks this. -
In braille. Would make more sense.
