I believe that's correct. That's the norm overall now.
Have to chuckle now when some kid says that he wants to buy a truck and go on his own. Not against bettering one's self, just knowing the accessorial expenses myself makes you wish you could talk most of them into staying with their current jobs... Lol

I know 3 guys around me that do the oil/construction thing on different dot#s. Leased on for oil and their own non haz-mat for construction hauling.

FYI you don't need any cargo ins to get authority .... Just the liability . But good luck trying to get a load from a broker or shipper....

P.S. Although with winter late in arriving and oil prices falling by the minute oil ain't what it used to be...lol $$$ :(

    BUMP

I was delivering at a local compnay here and the safety guy told that they switching to OO having their own authority and the cargo insurnace will be covered by the company.

My question is, can you have your own authority without cargo insurance?

Is this commonly referred to as contract authority?

    I'm confused

Liability for cargo is by the company? Yes

Than how does authority come into play for myself ?

If you wanted to buy your own liability insurance you can only do that if you run your own athority.I might not be understanding your question

So is there a difference between a general liability coverage vs cargo truck coverage?
Or are they both the same thing

I have to carry 2 million in cargo for most of my customers. I even have one that requires 3 million, we don't do jobs for them much so I just get a rider for each individual job.

We are a very specialized carrier though and haul things that are worth a lot of money. Honestly, most of the stuff we haul, 2M would be lucky to cover it if it was a total loss.

Who do you use for it? Pm if you want. I haven't been having much luck getting offers for that amount of coverage even
