Got offered a job driving a 5 axle dump truck. I have never driven one but they are willing to show me the ropes. Can you make decent $ after you gain experience?

Wish that was my truck lol. Just like that truck pic.
Right now I'm a $14.00 an hour hotel maintenance guy, so room for improvement lol. -
^^ When I hauled MANY a loads of Tac-22 (6122 asphalt; not hazmat nor "hot," per se) to Auglaize county this past summer and fall, I spoke to MANY of the road-dump driver guys; making upward of $23 bux an hour and yes, OT. Not bad, not bad at all. Mind you, these were county workers and most had been there awhile; yet they attest to the many that drive in this position as NON county; just company or O/O, make good money. When asphalt slows down (like now) they do the road treatment. Me, I haul OD in the winter when not tanking, but to each their own. Money seems to be decent; better than $14.00 an hour, but realize as being "new" to this, you may start around what you ARE making now.
Its all about where you want to be in a year or two. I had my own trash removal company in the 80's with a super-dump as it were back then; ended up selling the business to buy land and built a house, and went company. Never did take the leap to O/O; don't need to...making a bank with no headaches, LoL! There's a LOT of opportunities in Ohio for these trucks so probably other states as well, tho.
What is it about dump-haul that enthralls you?? JUST wondering, btw.
Good luck, with whatever works out
ps: KUDOS, to you O/O's guys and gals. Totally. I sub for one, and .. wow. You guys are the BACKBONE of this industry. F!~ the mega's.
Gnight and good luck. Sincerely.Last edited: Jan 23, 2016
