Just for you info, but a rollover accident like this will be a career killer with most trucking companies. While there may be all kinds of mitigating circumstances, it all boils down to driving to fast for the conditions. Unless there is mechanical failure of some type, it will go down as driver error.
I hope he recovers quickly, but if the company lets him go, finding another driving job might become difficult.
First ever accident, advice pls don't know what to expect

He has been driving these tankers for 10 months and in rain, etc. I can say from experience as his wife over the years? He is a very and I do mean very cautious driver. I know in our own private cars in the past he would be following me and I had to slow down in good weather for him to get back up to me. lol I would be like DUDE you drive like a little old lady. He knows he was driving under the speed limit due to the rain. In over 33 years of just plain driving (since age 18 this is his first accident ever. I imagine no matter what speed his was going 20 or 30 or 40 MPH anything that is an accident can be classed as to fast for road conditions. That statement seems to be a catch all for anything not explained.Last edited: Jan 24, 2016

Sorry to repeat this question but not addressed / responded to yet. Any idea why a qualcomm didn't record this event? Signal from area not there? Malfunction?
Who inspects the truck after an accident? DOT? The company? It's insurance company? -
QualComm doesn't log this stuff. It can show the truck moving or stopped, but it doesn't care if it's stopped wheels up... it just knows it's stopped.
Do mean like DriveCam or something like it? -
I hope your husband is healthy again soon!

Insurances don't care about our opinions.

It seems to show critical events. In the past when some one pulled in front of him it showed he applied the brakes hard or there was a stability control it send the company a signal and it shows the speed and location and if it was a hard break or some type of stability control issue. They called it a 'critical event' report. Something in the truck notifies the company and then they call the driver to find out what happen. Even though there was no accident. But in this event there was no hard brake, cause he knew not to apply the brake hard in a slide/hydroplane situation. He said he tried to slow it down gently that when he came to a non sharp curve, he steered in the direction of the curve but the wheels kept the truck going straight. He says like the wheels lost contact with the road. He didn't see any standing water and he has driven this same route dozens of times in worse rain than this in the past. He is just so totally baffled by it. He was trying to bring the truck back onto the road once he got it back on the road the tractor started to bounce hard. There is a thought that maybe the tractor was on the road but maybe part of the trailer wasn't all the way back. It happen so darn fast he said he doesn't even know if the tractor or the tanker trailer went on its side first. He remembers it starting to go over and next thing he wakes up and was hanging sort of upside down (seat belt holding him in) and someone peering through the windshield asking if he was ok. He doesn't even remember being taken to the hospital. (by ambulance)Last edited: Jan 24, 2016

I realize that. Just saying. Hey appreciate everyone's help, advice, wisdom, suggestions.
This is a first ever accident. We don't know what to expect. What to think.
Not to sound like wimps or clueless, but it is a new situation to us. -
Thank you. He is surprisingly doing better than we expected. Taking it easy.
No matter where this leads us we know we are blessed, we still have a steady income (retirement pay) and medical insurance (again military retirement) so wherever this leads us? We have things better than many people without the military benefits. We have family, we have each other and he is alive. We are blessed and thankful. oh and we don't have anything that can really be taken away from us, we owe on our car and don't own our home. Simple people. We don't have assets we have grandchildren lol, spend all our money on them.TBonze Thanks this. -
Black ice? or heavy water? Slowing down a tanker going into a curve and the surge is pushing you or slamming you depends how much braking is involved with such road conditions that little push is all it takes
Dot should have inspected the truck for any possible mechanical faliureshorsethief Thanks this.
