Wow ya sorry about your bad exp with May. I worked for them in 2012, and at this moment working on going back to May. I had no problems when it came to idling.I would get in contact with them if it was cold or hot and let them know my idle time would exced and I wasnt charged. I ran 11 Western and yes I got in on some of the so called short loads. All in all my exp with May was great and thats why I am going back to May.

Cheap freight but even cheaper labor. That's how starter company's like them make any margin at all. And of course you get bottom notch office and dispatch support to go along with it.

It leads me to believe there is a massive glut of trucking capacity and too many company's fighting over scraps. Would be fun if every driver that worked for them just one day just abandoned their trucks and strangled them out of business.

I've been with May for about 5 months now. They have treated me quite fairly overall. I would like more miles and if your truck breaks down, the process to get a hotel is ridiculous as they try to save every penny. Those are really my only two complaints. They still hand feed fuel stops, but it's not nearly the irritation I expected it to be although a few of the stops are less desireable locales...but then, it's not my money paying for diesel. Idle time is crappy, but as another driver mentioned, if you have a need to idle, just type up a request and send it in. They've never not paid me for tolls, scales, parking - even if they were upset that I chose a paylot rather than spending time (that wasn't available anyways) to find free parking.

I started with May in 2004 as a company driver. After talking with several Owner/Operators, having them all tell me they owned their tractors free and clear. They continue working for May. I lease purchased a Century. I completed the contract on time and got clear title in my name. I decided to sell my Century to a fleet owner at May. I lease purchased a second Century. I could have had a Pete or Volvo but prefer the Century. May Trucking was fair and honest and I would still be there if not for developing severe night blindness. I completed the second lease purchase and received clear title. When I sold that truck, the check was in my name only.
As far as problems, there are situations that are just part of trucking. If you can't handle the stress possibly trucking is not for you.

Is it May that made you a 5150, or trucking in general?:D

Mommy can I idle my truck, I am cold?

Give you the responsibility of a truck and valuable load but have to ask permission to sleep comfortably? No thanks, that says volumes there.

If you do as Darky said, there will be no deduction from your pay. If you don't want them watching so closely, get your own tractor.
51.50 is just an internet handle. My CB handle is Chico. Another driver suggested it in1975 because he said I resembled Chico from the comedy show" Chico and the Man" .

I worked for May for 7 months as an experienced driver only cause of location where I live, I can honestly say they were a #### good company to drive for.

They pay better than most starter companies and their equipment is top notch, Yeah they do micro manage their fuel program, but what mega carrier isn't doing it?? Specially with all the rookie bewbie drivers coming into the industry, Let's be honest most are as dumb as a bag of hammers.

I was never charged for idling the truck in the summer/ winter and when I drove for them it was in 2014 during all those polar vortex's, I just sent my DM Lisa a Idle request and bam No Problem.

The only reason I left May was cause of the 61 MPH speed and I only averaged about 2200-2400 miles during the 7 months, But for a new trucker coming in to this industry you will not find a better place to get your training.

They do not run as a team, They really do a great job matching students to trainers and really emphasise safety.
They are what they are, They're very upfront and honest about it, Anyone that has worked for them longer than 2 weeks will say the same or they are really the only one's lying on this forum.

    my two red pennies. Thanks
