Thanks for the info! I'm going to go ahead and expunge this from my record, actually I think its techcnically sealing it, but it should help. Think I might be OK already based on the above info, but going to do so to be safe. Really annoying that stuff from your past can come up once you've turned things around, but I guess that's life.

you can give it a rest I don't think anyone is stupid enough to think you can just pay 1000 dollars and then you don't have a criminal record.Original Bender Thanks this.

I hope this is a legitimate company. Lots of scams out there. If you only have one infraction and enough time has passed, you can get it expunged.
But, there are databases that take time to update new Information. Can take a year. -
I looked the law firm up and they seem legit to me. I also googled expungement laws in Texas, and its definitely something you can do if you qualify. I actually should qualify for a record seal though, not an expungement, which is a little different, but should help me out a lot. If you don't believe me, look at the link below from the State of Texas, you can definitely do this if you qualify it just seems confusing for me to do on my own. I'm just trying to get some more info from others who have records and have HazMat, and provide some info I found out with a little digging - no need to be a jerk and say I'm stupid. I think its worth the money if it works, and I don't have any reason to think it won't (fingers crossed).

yes but if you qualify to have it expunged you don't have to pay a company to do it for yousnowwy Thanks this.

in GA they will not expunge anything, unless the Governor grants it to you. my neighbor is a professional criminal (aka lawyer)
Original Bender Thanks this. -
Maybe you're better at this type of thing than me. I'd rather just pay the cash and be done with it. There are forms online to do it yourself, but it looks tough to me. I just read an article that says a bunch of states let you do it, but a bunch don't. I also know a guy who did it in CA too. Guess it depends on what state you're in and what your record is. Anyway, I just thought I'd share what I found. Hope my record is fixed up, and stays that way!

Well, to put this entire thread to bed, I have a class 5 Federal Felony for Bank Larceny from 1992, that's right, a Federal level felony, which means to get mine expunged, I have to get permission from the occupant of the oval office, and it costs a heck of a lot more than $1,000.
I have HAZMAT and TWIC , my record has never been expunged or sealed. So, unless you have one of the disqualifiers listed elsewhere, spending the money to get your record expunged, which BTW, most likely you will not succeed, as typically you have to been free and clear for 20 yrs from end of sentence, is a waste of time, you would be better off getting the waiver.
About the only thing your felony will keep you from is entering Canada.18_wheelsofsteel and austinmike Thank this. -
The way I understood expungement is its only if you are granted deferred adjudication when you are sentenced. Then you have to get it done within a certain timeframe or you are sol. And even then, it will show up as an arrest but not a conviction.
But all that was a long time and many brain cells ago lol - -
Misdemeanors can be expunged. Felonies can't. ( Supposedly )
It's also not a difficult NOR confusing process. And can be done on your own. For $85. No need to give a Law Firm $1000.
Here's the procedure in Utah.
Drive your car to Background Criminal Investigations. ( BCI ). Park your car. Walk in to building.
Take a number and Fill out application. Wait for number to be called. Submit fingerprints on application. Pay $10. Turn in to clerk. Have a seat and wait for your name to be called.
Walk back to counter and get your record. GO HOME. And wait 30 days for letter in mail.
Take letter back to BCI. Grab a number. Wait for number to be called. Hand letter to clerk. Receive another form. It goes to the courthouse that did your case. And comes with instructions.
( The letter will tell you if your eligible or not. It will also tell you what can and can't be expunged. And what the timeframe is for each type of eligible expungement. ) DUI's are 10 years. There was something for 7 years, 3 years, and 2 years. I don't remember what they were.
Take Form to court that handled your case. Pay a fee for each document needed. 6 total for a cost of $65.
Court gets one copy. Prosecuting attorney office that did your case gets one copy. Jail that booked you gets one copy. Police department that arrested you gets one copy. Go back to BCI as they get one copy. You get the last copy.
Wait 30 days. Go back to BCI. Take a number. Fill out application with fingerprints. Wait for number to be called. Pay $10. Turn in to clerk. Have a seat and wait for your name to be called. Receive record. Charge should be gone.
The only other expense to add to the total cost. Is time off from work. Can't be done on the weekends.Last edited: Jan 26, 2016
