Greetings.
I have an associate I've known online for about 9 years now. I've never actually met her in real life. Just an internet friend basically. She lives in Chicago and she has fallen on some pretty rough times in the past couple of years. Things pretty much fell out of the bottom recently where she now has to live in a shelter. I've suggested OTR truck driving for her, but money is an issue. So, I'm going to mention that wia grant tomorrow, but also I'm wondering if there is a thread here that gives a list of all the trucking companies that offer training to obtain the cdl license. I understand that there's usually some sort of condition of being employed with them for a period of time afterward, but in her position of being homeless right now, I think this would be a step up and a chance for her to save some money and get back on her feet.
So, please direct me to a thread with such a list of it's been made before(my apologies for this thread in which case) or if not then can the members here just sound off on all the companies they know that offers this service?
Thank you.

This sounds like a recipe for disaster.... Wanting to drive and shake up your life is one thing. But, these companies that you are looking for take advantage of the average Joe. I am not sure what kind of havoc they could pull to really wreck her life.
Canned Spam and NoobiDriver Thank this. -
It's definitely not ideal, but I thought it would be better than homelessness though...

Marginally better......if that.Canned Spam and TBonze Thank this. -
I'd rather be homeless than a slave. Or indentured servant if you will...
These companies are predators. They cull the herd and crush the weak in a daily basis. -
Don't listen to the sky is falling group. Prime only requires 1 year commitment or pay back 3,000 pro rated for training. 2-3 weeks no pay pre cdl training. You only need food money.. then 6 weeks post cdl training at 700 a week minimum pay.. after that your free to choose solo, team in any division like tanker, reefer, flatbed ect. Plenty of choice and room to grow. Might be others but none that I know of that pay as well to start a new career
Orangees and NoobiDriver Thank this. -
Thank you for this information. -
Lets see... Live in my car, or worse, in Chicago... In the winter... Or... Live in my 2014 Volvo with inverter and fridge and getting paid to do so... Hhmmmm ... Let me think...
I guess I would have to choose the "marginally better" option and opt to stay in my truck.
But hey, that's just me... What do I know?
At OP, good luck to your friend!Orangees, Orion78, AnotherChapter and 2 others Thank this. -
there is far too many companies to list and don't think there is a thread on the list of companies.just Google it you'll find a lot of info.type in the search box company sponsored cdl training or schools.

When I saw the way the thread was going starting out, given the urgency of the situation, I did go ahead and just google. I was just looking forward to having the kind of insight from people here about it all that I wouldn't be able to get on the sites that just lists out the companies. No problem though.
