I'm trying to find out how feasible it would be to rent a truck and car trailer to haul some cars cross country for an auto event.
Here's my situation... I've been an otr driver for 6 years but have no car hauling exp. I am also an e46 m3 owner and member of m3forum. The e46 m3 community is trying to get together a 15 year anniversary event later this year but the event keeps hitting a wall when it comes to location, drive time and people not being able to make it. So I am looking into the possibility of renting a car hauler to move some of the cars myself so that some guys can just fly out. Am also open to hiring some trucks if it's not reasonable for me to do it personally, or if more than 8 people want their car moved for the event. We would be looking at Las Vegas to maybe Pittsburg or somewhere else in PA. Round trip, but not sure which area would be starting from as that will depend on the m3 community and what works better for them. The event would be about a week long before the return trip.
So my questions are- Is it reasonable for me to do this myself with no car hauling experience (but 6 years otr reefer/dry)? If so what would the cost be to rent a truck and trailer for a week or two? Am a company driver so would need to rent both truck and trailer. If doing this myself would I be operating as not for hire? I would be taking no compensation, other than the costs of the trip.
Alternatively how would I go about hiring a truck or more if needed? Could I hire a driver directly, go to a broker, or would I be better off going to a company? Any company recommendations? Some of these guys cars are rare and/or have a lot of money into mods and customization so don't wanna risk hiring a bad company. What would it cost to hire a truck? Cars would pick up and drop off at a single location, Las Vegas to Pittsburg or thereabouts, and 7 days for the actual event before the return trip.
The event won't be until summer, but the event organizers are trying to get things locked in by spring. Any info or advice greatly appreciated, thx!

Out of Vegas, there is a ton of companies that do runs like that. Most of us have hauled Car show entrys, We've done Jeep runs, Atv runs. Then decide open or enclosed.
-
Know the approx price per car for that type of run? For both enclosed and open.

Depends on zip code to zip code, how many vehicles, size of etc. I personally stick to the left coast. I'd go PM Kansas. Tell him to bring the Chief along so he wont be bored.......
