I felt NAKED without a sidearm for the first couple of months OTR. I've gotten used to it. If it were just the off-chance of losing a job, I'd carry deep-conceal and no one would ever know unless I used it, in which case, fine, I'm glad to be alive to be fired. When I'm looking at the prospect of life-altering felony convictions based one mere instance of bad luck?... Not so much. It's not company policy you should worry about. THAT, is easily avoided. It's the law in states you WILL be dispatched to that should give you cause. My WA and UT concealed carry permits cover me 90% of the places I go to. The other 10%, it's jail time to get caught. I, for one, am not willing to risk that. Company policy is a distant fifth place to that concern.
scottlav46 and Pigbacon Thank this. -
WA, OR, CA, IL, PA, NJ, SC, NY, MA are the main ones I can think of that don't recognize my permit.
Hopefully the NRA can get things changed. I believe they're pushing for universal acceptance of concealed carry permits. -
A UT concelaed permit will take care of WA, PA. The rest, Oregon will give out of state permits, but you have to go there to get one. SC will too.
IL, NJ, MA, NY and CA...forget it. To the point, you WILL go to Chicago and NJ on a regular basis. Carrying a gun in those places is playing with fire. DEFINITELY not worth it, IMO.
If I knew I would only go to friendly states, I'd carry. But that's not how it works. If it's THAT important to you, better go with a local/regional company. It's a big deal to me, but OTR, you choose money or regional usually. I chose money.Pigbacon Thanks this. -
Do you get paid for the deadhead miles? I have never thought about those miles before.
-
Yes you get paid for dead head. A few places will pay you for all the miles you drive, most pay based on some derivative of computed miles from location to location.NewTrucker7 Thanks this.

Missing Poly yet?. Hope things turn around for you there.

Pete got the truck right in. Got all but one part ordered except for one. The abs harnesses. Can't repair has to be replaced. From Axels up to main chassis connection.

Add Virginia they just dropped resorprosity with 25 states.

Trying a new run out, headed from TX to Denver with a hazmat load with two stops. Tomorrow I pick up at Miller-Coors heading for WA, looking forward to getting back west. Tentatively I'm scheduled to pick up a load from WA to AR so I'll be managing my clock so I can hopefully run on recaps.
Looking forward to the Web presentations later this week to see how our expansion plans are coming and get a feel of what the miles will look like going forward. Also wondering if $0.50 will remain as our top rate...Ordy19 Thanks this.
