Food for thought

Local drivers in my area make $14 an hour for a forty hour week: = $540.

Some, really lucky drivers, who KNOW someone make as much as $21 per hour. A TINY percentage.

I make $1100 per week. OTR.

That's the real world if you don't live in a major metropolitan area.

 

I run local I make after taxes better than 72k a year. If your local area is only paying $14-$15 dollars an hour I really feel bad for you. Most local companies if you have a clean record and at least two years experience will start you between 22.00 and 25.00 an hour. I am on salary I know what I make every week. Having to sleep and live in a truck day in and day out with a poor quality of life getting paid CPM is archaic.

 

I call bs on guys saying they make over 100k, very few and far between. I was in that club when I worked for sysco but it's the exception not the norm. Can't help but notice guys who claim they make the big bucks never tell who they work for...I personally back up everything I

Here's the companies I worked for
Sysco foods, local and union. Starting pay 18.00 an hr, ot after 8. Average pay check about 1900 a week, average sleep time 4 hours a night, I quit because I thought I was going to fall asleep one day and kill myself and or others

Jb hunt- local intermodal and dcs, home everyday I was a driver and fleet manager so my numbers aren't real accurate but I was salaried as an fm or 50k plus bonuses (shareholders not performance based) as a driver I would net maybe 800 to 850 a week, overall don't reccomend that company

DOT foods, regional (home weekly Thursday evening left out Saturday afternoon) had a dedicated route made 62k first year and 75k the following yr, could have made a lot more but I take a lot of time off.

I'm doing OTR now for prime, too early to tell to be honest. They started me out at .46 and my first few checks have averaged a net of 900 take home.

Everyone's situation is different, I have virtually zero debt, came here with money in the bank, I do spend money on the road, I uber a lot and go to good restaurants I find on yelp, I took out three girls out I met online from different states (I'm single no kids) so it's what you make of it.

I plan to buy a house and get my masters in the next year or two so I don't see myself doing this long term but might as well make the best of the situation

This shouldn't be a pissing match for which is better. In societies eyes we're all losers anyways and I'm sure it'd be like watching kids on the short bus fight to them

Your numbers seem off to make 1900 a,week on 18 an hour with ot after 40 you would have to work 84 hours a week, thats either 12 hours a day 7 days a week or 14 hours a day 6 days a week.
That breaks the hos laws
And that is still under 100k

not nessesarily, some of that time might have just been on duty not driving.

 

My typical work week is less than 45 hrs per week (5 nights at 8-9 hrs per night, off weekends). I get paid salary and I make more than most OTR drivers. I do auto parts delivery to dealerships on a dedicated route for Black Horse Carriers.

 

You still can not drive after 60 hours in 7 days or 70 hours in 8 days on duty time. That would mean that his last 20 hours of the week we're all on duty not driving. I dont think so
