I've been lurking for a while and decided to finally make an account. I'm still pretty new to this industry, having only a little over a year OTR under my belt, but I've enjoy the work so far.

I ran the gauntlet with CRST's training program and became a company driver for a short period before transitioning over to driving with a buddy of mine as an I/C through their L/P program. Eventually we split and I took a lease out on a truck myself through CRST and became a trainer. I know, the idea of someone with less than a year's experience becoming a trainer probably made a few of you cringe, but I do put a lot of pride in my work and try to do things 'right'. I've kept my record clean and a few of my students told me that they've used the things I've taught them to teach their codrivers, so maybe I'm doing something right?

Anyway, I'm on the fence about continuing with the LP/training gig. It's feast or famine (usually more famine) and I really need something more consistent. I'd really like to get into driving a log truck if I had the means and opportunity to do so, but I really don't know much about it and would need at least basic training. Anyone here have experience with logging or know of any companies worth checking out around the Florence, SC area?

I know there are paper mills all up and down the I-95 corridor from N. Fla to Va. I'd imaginane the coastal pine flats is the place to be for haulin logs. Good luck.

Oh , also my wife lived in Flo-town and worked at the Honda factory for several years before she got a cdl and moved to TN.

I'll try looking around once I get back home in April. Thanks for the tip!

And I don't blame her for leaving Florence; I recently looked up Florence's crime index and on a scale of 1 to 100 with 1 being the worst.......it was rated 1. I'd love to move to Montana. I loved the cold weather when I lived in Pennsylvania, but I'm not a fan of the crowdedness or the 'rat race' mentality that's so prominent on the east coast.

Look up escanaba michigan sometime when you're bored. Similar weather to Montana. Great place to live. My bro in law owns a logging company buncha log trucks but they're different than what you'd see out east...11 axle beasts road legal at 159,000 with a self loader on em but if ya ever decide to make a move lemme know I'll hook ya up!

Wow, no kidding? They sound beastly. I might look into that; I like challenging and obscure work, so that might be right up my alley. I'll let you know if I do decide to head up that way though. Thanks for the heads up on that!

Leavitt's Freight Service might hire out of Montana. Flatbed and haul all types of freight such as windmills, poles and other stuff.
Couple drivers that post on here were hired right out of cdl school even though the website has "experience required."

I'll look into that. Anything based out of Montana is appealing to me, so I'll look into this for sure. I appreciate the lead!

Decker Truck Line and Jim Palmer Trucking based in Missoula,MT
A few drivers with Decker said can make more money with reefer division because flatbed miles aren't enough.Danny Herman Trucking is based in TN, but may hire Montana drivers. Dry van with lots of drop & hook and drivers post they easily make $1200.00 weekly.
Jones Bros. Trucking is based in Missoula but don't know enough about the company to make a solid recommendation. Probably good for a new cdl grad to gain windshield time and flatbed experience for the future. If I remember correctly they pay premuim bonus to cross border into Canada.
