Ok,
I drive a CNG Freightliner truck. All the trucks have a CB tray mount with antenna hookup and power as stock.
All the fleet also has two antennas on either side of the cab above the door.
I bought a Cobra 29 lx and hooked it up. I am getting an antenna error and SWR of 3 or over.
I can pickup the channels on the weather band as far as I can tell.
Anyone have any idea of why the antenna's may not be working with the cobra?
Is there a different CB that they "would" work with?
The fact that all the trucks have the CB hookup with Antenna connection makes me think they must be working...But no luck..

Factory coax and antenna are usually junk ,run a good 18' of shielded coax to one good antenna. Something like a Wilson, should work good for you.

I have this same problem on a 2012 KW T700.
I had another 29, it got lost (long story), bought this one to replace it. Had it hooked up in a rental T700. High SWR. Took it out when I got out of the rental and stuck it in this one, same problem. I'm wondering if it got trashed while I had it hooked up in that rental.
There's really no place to ground another antenna. The mirrors and everything else is plastic or fiberglass.

I know if you attempt to transmit for a long period of time it will damage the transistors in the CB.
Don't know how long "prolonged transmitting" would be.Hick and White_Knuckle_Newbie Thank this. -
This is the time to listen to your radio but don't try to talk on it. Go to a CB shop and let them sell and match you a good antenna and mount. Take the factory antennas off and use the dashboard tray and power supply.

the problem is that it's a company truck and when it breaks down, they will just give me another one. I need minimal investment/semi-portability.

Take the mount, antenna and coax out and put it in the other truck. You will still be further ahead. If all the trucks are exactly the same, the SWR will not be that far off.Rambler470 Thanks this.
