I have heard the trailer you want pull referred to as a 'centipede' or 'sled'. I have never pulled one. I have hauled a lot of coils in the past though. While four chains are technically correct I would say that is the min. It doesn't take much time to throw another chain or two. In addition to standard securement I would add friction mats and a 'trip chain' (see pic) if loaded shotgun. I am assuming that the sled you buy will have a coil well built into the trailer, so most coils will be loaded shotgun.

Loading multiple coils takes some experience with your equipment for proper weight distribution. You will need to find out your allowable axle weights for your equipment in the state that you will operate. I've hauled coils like you are asking..(a 15k and a 30k coil) only on a smaller scale with spread axle flatbed not a sled. Feel free to contact me if you have more q's.

Note the 'trip chain' in the pic. It is the chain that runs along the floor in front of the coil. These are three 12" coils set together hence the chain over the top. Pic is for reference of the trip chain. 0211150908.jpg

Why is it so many people decide to get there cdl and immediately plan on buying there own truck. My opinion is why not abuse someone else equipment and insurance while your gaining experience. I have seen this so many times and even my brother inlaw did it go get cdl, go buy truck, pay repair bills because you don't have much experience, inflict un needed stress on family due to financials, then go bankrupt! In the end I guess you will get to call yourself a o/o and be a big show for a couple months. Good luck crawling out of the hole you just dug!
