What? Right side of your steering wheel? No way... Mine is on the right side of the drivers seat... OMG, I hope I never get a job with your company... I would be so totally lost!!!

And then someone would need to teach me to drive all over again... They never said anything in my two week super trucker school about gear shifters possibly being on the steering wheel... I want my money back... NOW!!!

It would not hurt to learn how to drive a manual transmission. However, when looking for your first job, one has to go where the job openings are.

It would probably be better to be able to get your first job driving a manual transmission to at least get some experience on it. Afterwards, it probably won't make any difference either way.

The most important thing is to be the SAFEST truck driver possible.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

    What? I'm serious! :(

My future is totally wrecked and you dare laugh??? If you were here next to me I would hit you over the head with my 5' gear shifty thingy... Oh wait... Crud, no I can't.

(Please Note: the above comment was a dramatic reenactment... No actual harm to any shifty thingys actually took place nor should it have been implied)

Now I can agree with that point of view. I can drive a manual car and a motorcycle and I could say to my girls "it would not hurt to learn how to drive/ride this kind of vehicle... But honestly, they will more than likely never need to drive/ride either.

It's when some folks go off all chicken little about the sky is falling and just how unsafe an auto is or that one cannot even drive an auto and be considered a good and safe driver and lump said drivers with anyone that should not be behind a wheel simply because they drive a different transmission... Then I join the fun... I just can't resist... Sorry.

I drive a 2016 Cascadia Automatic daycab. I love that truck. Automatic all the way. I love sitting in traffic watching other guys work themselves up switching gears while i keep two fingers on the steering wheel and other hand scratching my ###.
