i know this has been beat to death, but looking for a little info. I am considering truck driving. I was gonna talk to PAM this morning, but thank God I found this site before I did. I am 49 years old. I was Paramedic for 20 years. The last 10 years I've been in Oil Field sales and have spent the last 16 months hoping for a come back, but have now run out of money. About to sell my wife's Jeep and put our home up for sale. I live in Houston Texas but want to move to Springfield, Missouri. I have check into community collage driving schools, but the cash is now a problem. I need to get the training thru a trucking Company that can put me to work. Here in Houston I have many options like PAM, Swift and Stevens which have schools local, but I also have family in Springfield I could stay with if I went to Primes schooling. My question for you is, if I went to Prime, would I be able to work out of Houston after my training while I try to sell my home for the move, then transfer easily, or should I try and get my CDL local? What's the truth about these company's. If you were to do it over again and had to do Company paid Training, which would you go with? I need to start making cash as soon as I can. Thanks in advance.

Your best recourse is CTL Transportation. They pay for cdl school plus give you a good paying job at graduation. This company does lots of work along the Gulf Coast and other parts of the USA.
You should be able to make $60K with this company then with some experience move on to other companies paying in the $100K range.

Schneider Bulk might offer the same deal as CTL Transportation. Schneider Bulk tanker school is in Houston.
CTL tanker school, which you will attend after graduation from CDL school, is in Tampa,FL which they pay for your transportation there.

Chinatown is very knowledgeable. He won't lead you astray.

For someone outside the industry looking at what REALLY goes on in trucking.... this site is where to be.

Those schools and recruiters are full of baloney. Don't trust much of what they promise you. Seek out those whom have walked that path prior.

Whatever you do don't go PAM. Their drivers hate their lives and will tell you every chance they get.

CTL doesn't have CDL classes but do offer Tuition reimbursement paid over 2 years. I've run to the end of my rope and don't see going to community college as an option due to finances. PAM was the first recruiter I spoke with and as many have said here the pay is terrible and I found it very difficult not to laugh at him. I'm waiting to here back from Schneider, their recruiters sound very busy. I spoke with Prime this morning. They can get me in school right away and can have me working in about 7 weeks. This seems like a good option for me as I have Family in Springfield that I can stay with and is where we intend on moving once my house sells, so I would leave there with a Missouri CDL which I will need eventually any way.

    Any opinions on Prime?

You're backed into a corner, so just do what you have to do.
We just deal with the hand we're dealt. Prime should be ok for you to get the career started.

Choosing a CDL trainers abit like buying a car there are plenty to choose from but you don't really know how good they'll be till you use them. You need to choose something that will suit your needs. The best option is to pay for your training however not everyone has the $3500 to cover the costs, so your next option is to go with a company if it don't work out you could always leave them and pay out what you still owe them. That way you'll at least have the experience and a little more money in the bank. As far as working out of Houston you'll need to speak with Prime about that.
