Just so you are aware, a 1099 "contractor" will pay self employment tax, which is basically an additional 13% to what a W-2 employee will pay. In addition, a 1099 'contractor will likely have to pay for workers compensation, even though it is difficult for a 1099r to collect it.

The reason that being 1099 looks so appealing at first is because you will receive the entire gross up front, but beware, Uncle Sam will have both hands out!

With proper planning, and excellent record keeping, the 1099 can work as you are entitled to deduct more expense, but usually an owner that wants you to work on a 1099 basis is someone to stay away from.

In addition, I'm not sure on the legality of hiring a 1099 contractor in the trucking business that does not own his/her own truck.
