Just write then on the bill yourself by the signature after you are back in the truck.

That's what we do. We also call the broker the min we get on property and check in and call the min we check out so the broker knows the time in and out also by phone.

I've refused to give my check out paper dozen of times without time in time out. I hate nestle in Georgia especially!! Always had a problem with them for some reason that wasn't my fault at all. Had to wait for them to "straighten out their system" etc which one time took 6 hours plus unloading. After all that broker told me get my in and out times to be paid. They refused. Did a load again and second time I didn't stop for check out at security. Same with a lot of places.

Actually, I'm having a bit of a detention problem right now.
What is the going detention rate?
What if they offer something really low, like $75 for being tied up 6 hours?
If you get to a shipper, they don't have any record of you load numbers, etc, or have anything going to your destination, borker can't get to the bottom of it because it's after hours, at what point do you call bs, demand tonu, and move on?

The contract you sign with the broker states the hourly amount for detention. I have brokers that pay anywhere from 25 to 75 bucks per hour after the 2 free hours.

Honestly that should have been worked out before you took the load. Our policy is always discuss detention rates. If they don't have a set rate we ask for $50 per hour after the first two hours. Not using the truck after the truck arrives is $500 unless they already have a set rate. Our dispatch understands that the trucks have to make money so detention is a priority to cover. That's one reason we won't pull fresh chicken loads or do "first come first serve" loads. I had rather have money from rolling, than sit all day waiting on a fresh chicken load or wait all day at a fcfs place.
