I'm happy with the per diem myself. I just was audited by the IRS for tax year 2012 and had to dend them s check for $2600. The information they wanted me to provide that would entitle me to my standard OTR driver deductions was ridiculous. I did my 2012 taxes around the same time as my father died. At. The time I was in a huge legal dispute with my siblings over his estate and the circumstances leading to his death. Then two years later I get audited. I couldn't find most of my records from that period of time so I was screwed. I figure the IRS saw how much money I inherited and since that's tax free they wanted a little slice of the pie themselves. With per diem it simplifies my taxes and I get more money in my check every week. I used to be against per diem but I'm not anymore.

If you want some good investment advice take the extra money you make from per diem and invest it. If your still young enough your capital investment gain will pay you more then you will get paid back by Social Security by the Government. And the way that the Federal Government is deficit spending now there is a very real possibility that in another 20. years there won't be any money left to adequately fund all of these Government entitlement programs that so many people have become dependant on.

What kind of gross pay can a driver expect. I like to run 2 to 3 weeks at a time with 2 nights at home in between. High 50k to 60k?

I don't work for Big G anymore. I left to take a local job, but I still highly recommend them and if I go back OTR again, I will go back.

@tow614 can answer better than I can as far as pay.
