How clean is his equipment? Any other issues besides running to hard, meaning drugs? Sometimes when guys are turning serious miles covering ground in that amount of time substances besides coffee becomes involved. If not, I dunno man if the trk is cleaned and polished I might give him another go, but with some real ground rules.

You need lines in the sand or your company will go down the toilet. Friend or not that doesn't the mean anything. This is your business and those are your expectations. The worst thing at any company is a driver or drivers who don't give a #### about anyone but themselves.

Yeah, you gave him a number of chances to keep it together. This day and age your liable unfortunately. And I'm not bashing your friend or anything but usually guys who keep begging for help from friends are reluctant to give help if the situation was reversed.

You need to create a paper trail like sending letters like exceeding hours of service etc. So if you get audited, you can show you found the problem and reacted the proper way and that he is no longer involved in your company.

Let's be realistic. What kind of friend pulls multiple stunts like that and when you confront him pulls the suicide card to make your feel bad. the risks alone that he is putting you himself and everyone else on the road should be more than enough reason for you to never hire this apparent friend ever again.

9 times out of 10 your gut instinct is right. You are doing the right thing not bringing him back. I believe he has other issues that cloud his judgement such as living beyond his means.

If the profits are that high at 80+mph, imagine what they could be with some fuel mileage and peace of mind not wondering if and when "that call" was coming.

Al the profit in the world gets wiped away after a negligence mishap. Especially if they can prove that you had ANY knowledge it may have been occurring.

    Tough situation
