I got a quote just last week through a Progressive agent. It was very inexpensive compared to other quotes we received, however they would not write the policy for over a 500 mile radius. Our current agent said they would effectively cancel the policy should an issue arise outside of the 500 mile radius. Our current agent also quotes for Progressive so I'm wondering if she is steering our business toward a more expensive insurer.

Our Progressive quote was for $6500 ish for the year. No trailer interchange because I haul cars only and 250k cargo. I don't recall the deductible amount.

"Great" is a subjective term too. It is "great" for me. Shop around as others have suggested. I would shy away from the mom and pops on this one...god forbid you're in an accident, but, if you are...want a company who'll answer the phone 24-7 when you need them.

I don't skimp on coverage. My authority/business and customers are protected. That's all that matters to me.

We are in the process of starting our company and getting our dot numbers. Insurance was a shocker. Best quote was from progressive. It's not a good price.
    1 mil liability
    100k cargo with reefer breakdown
    1 mil general liability
    50k. Uninsured
    2 tractors 2 trailers at a whopping 34 k a year.
    We're based on florida .. it's ridiculous

Oh I don't blame you , I feel the same way. It's just that I can't believe how high rates have gotten. I had the same coverages years ago for $5000 per year. ( except for General Liability didn't have it )

Might be surprised. If you have a clean MVR, may not be too much higher as the flexibility in coverage is minimal given set requirements by FMCSA.

Both of us (owners llc partnership) have clean mvr, no tickets , no accident, 10 years company drivers. For new entrants it's a different ball game. None of the best insurance companies will cover new authority. Great west won't touch us until we have 2 years under our belt. Basically I've shopped around a lot and I'm disappointed. If anyone knows some companies I should try please list suggestions. Thanks guys.
