Yes jlind. I did end up going with Martin. So far, it's working out pretty well. Here is a link to another post I made talking about the money potential with what I'm doing.

And, what I'm doing is hauling crude oil from the oil fields around Corpus Christi, TX (within about 150 miles) and then taking the load down to either Ingleside or Aransas Pass, TX. I usually make two loads a day, work five days and sleep in the truck for four of those five. I get a hotel the night of the fifth and all day and night on my sixth day. They also pay $120 every time I reset. On the seventh day I'm back out working.

So, I work six days a week and am off one, which is never the same day of the week.

After three - four weeks, they fly me home for about 6 days off. Then I fly back out and do it all over again.

    Thanks for asking!

To the driver who says that Martin is not a good company, how many other companies have you driven for? I've been a driver there for a year now and have never had a problem with pay, equipment, or anything else there. I have a dedicated run, and have never not gotten paid!! The people in the office are very friendly and understanding. Some of the other companies i have worked for just don't care about the driver! Martins has been a great company to work for and their equipment is not just freightliners they also use Sterlings and when you ask for something to fixed, the mechanics get on it! So if you ask me, and i've been a company driver with a dedicated run at Martins and i have no plans on leaving. Good company to work for!!!

I have been with them for going on 2 years and drive out of the Grand Prairie Txx. Terminal I have never had a pay issue with them and they have always paid my tolls and everything else because I do my paperwork correctly. Dispatch is always friendly and have always worked with me when I needed time off for appointments.I havealways gotten 1 to 2 days off everyweek and I average about 3400 to 3700 miles a week.our equipment is older but I have been in the same truck the whole time and its been reliable. I actually like the paperless logs and for those of you that haven't ran them you gotta try them before you pass judgement.io have ran 4048 miles and still had 40 min. Left on my 70. I have some issues with the speed of the trucks. They started turning them down in jan. But only did a hand full then quit unfortunantly mine was one that was turned down. They need to turn them all down or turn the others back up.all in all its a good company and I'm looking forward to actually staying put.

It sounds like Burton may be the problem. I worked for Martin/Toledo twice (9/02-7/06 and 11/10-8/12). My only complaints were the trashed (by the drivers, sadly) equipment and the unpredictability of loads. I had a dedicated run that cancelled more than it ran. That's pretty much how the auto parts sector is running lately. I always had $500 on my fuel card, direct contact with a dedicated dispatcer according to the load I was moving, and I could talk to the mechanics if I had a serious problem with a truck. Every company has problems and every driver can find something to complain about. Some people will complain if they got hung with a new rope.

Thanks merlinn. I responded to an ad in our local newspaper and just got off the phone with recruiting. Then I decided to do some quick research and saw all the older comments on here. Glad you made that final post. I was ready to search elsewhere (don't want to do anymore job jumping than is absolutely necessary) but I am thinking I will give MTS a shot. Home weekly sounds awful good to me.

I just saw an ad for these guys so I called and got some information from them. It sounds good. I put in an app. We'll see if I get hired or not as I've only been in this business for a little over six months. I just want to work somewhere I can make good money and get home to my 7yr old little girl more often than once every other month

Home weekly is a good thing. I started narrowing things around 1999 and now I am home every weekend, off on every holiday, and take 2-3 weeks off a year. I will never go back to those years of being out weeks on end. There are a lot of good companies, usually in the 100-300 truck range, that get their drivers home every week. If you got a child, do everything you can to get lined up with something to be home with the child at least every week if you can. Those days will pass way to soon and you will end up beating yourself up for the rest of your life because you didn't spend more time with them. Some things are much too important. With the demand for good drivers, there is no reason (unless one just loves being out on the road) for not going home every week and there are lots of opportunities for drivers to get lined up with something that allows them that kind of home time and still make a good living.
