Picking up a recent purchase in a different state

All you do is get a temp tag from the state you're picking the truck up in I'm sure Penske would do that for you and you get insurance from your home state

 

I purchased trucks out of state. You get your insurance company to cover it. I went to the state's Dmv purchased a temporary tag That is the best way to find out if anything is wrong by driving it back. You really can't tell until you hook up to a 40k+ load. If possible drive for a few hundred miles get a oil sample done. Is penske giving you any documentation on the maintenance done on the truck. I would request that. I hope all works out for you.

 

I might be doing that, Andy. Get unleased from a company in Joplin, MO, have to drive my truck from there to either New Mexico or Colorado. I can pick up the fuel permits at the POE's on the way (plan to check DOT websites for each state on the route before setting out, some want it done online beforehand).

My question is, will the Missouri temp tag get me thru Texas, Oklahoma, maybe some Kansas and Nebraska? Thanks.

 

I bought a truck in Colorado I called Colorado, Kansas and Missouri they all said basically the same thing proof of insurance and signed title and bill of sale. The lady in Colorado said make sure to have a log book and chains also.

Kansas said as long as it was bobtail a signed title with insurance is what they wanted to see. Missouri said the same thing.

 

I bought my truck in Missouri and drove it home to Texas bobtail with nothing but my insurance card and Missouri temp tag and log book of course. I didn't get stopped so I can't say for sure it was 100% legal. I got the green light at the Joplin scale. Maybe there is some sort of exemption for things like this but I would think you would need trip/fuel permits because the truck is rated over 26k.

 

When I bought my Freightliner, Conway told me "if you have a temporary registration, just drive over here, no problem." The Oklahoma DOT didn't feel the same about it, so I got a $150 ticket for the fuel permit and then paid the fee, of course, something like $10. Learning curve there. So yes, Myke, I think the fuel permit is a must in each state.
