May I ask which company you're working for in Seattle BrandonPDX? I'm looking for a local job in Seattle and just got my year otr experience. Thanks.

I ran OTR and regional for several years before going LTL. I actually quit Knight, without a job to go to. Gave them two weeks notice, turned in my truck on a Friday in Denver. Wife picked me up there and we came home. On Sunday, saw a help wanted ad in the local rag. Was working by that Thursday. Best move I ever made. It was hard work, but it was not an unpleasant job, most of the time.

i didn't want to do OTR anymore and i heard a nearby LTL company was hiring. i didn't have real clear understanding of what it was all about, but i did pretty much know it was local and you'd be home every night.

The money and being home every night.
I never did OTR and don't really have any interest in ever doing it.

I thought that doing OTR was a bad deal and I'm not totally hip to hauling HAZMAT however I do have the endorsement and would if I had to.

At any rate I split the difference and went with a company that runs a lot of doubles near and far so after sometime when I get sick of delivering I can run transit when a job comes up and I have enough time in and we don't haul placard-able amounts of HAZMAT, plus I was in the restaurant industry as a worker so it was just a natural progression to end up in broadline.

Yep, for now. My friend over at dayton freight said they're supposed to be calling me with a job offer though. So we'll see what happens.

Dayton Freight is a good outfit that's where I would work if I went into haul freight.

It was about the money for me. The disparity in income versus OTR is crazy. The LTL lifestyle is more health friendly as well. It's not even close. The most I made OTR per mile was .43, home weekends and showering at a truck stop. LTL is close to .70 plus hourly when not driving, home daily and off weekends.
