News article about I-70 closing in Colorado. A massive boulder hit the trailer of a truck, and that truck hit a boulder.

Good news is nobody was hurt. Bad news they don't know when I-70 will reopen. Detour north to US-40 .

FerrissWheel, Big Don and LindaPV Thank this.

The news about no one getting hurt is great news! The bad news... Well, using U.S. 40 will be a challenge for most.

On the lighter side of the rocks, how does a driver explain to Safety that boulders fell down in front of the truck?

I'm guessing the driver's seat is now brown in that rig. Mine would be. I frigging hate going through there.

I've run Glenwood Canyon many a time, in all conditions. It's beautiful if you run it at sunrise or sunset. Quite an engineering feat, with east and westbound lanes on top of each other for miles. I never thought about the possibility of rock fall, but with geology, stuff comes down.

I-70 through Glenwood Canyon was built before I started trucking. However, due to family medical problems, I was back and forth through that canyon many times as the highway was being built. I never minded the times spent waiting at road closures, because seeing what they were doing was so interesting to me.
I well remember the "old road," before I-70. US 40 through that canyon was my second favorite drive. (First one being the Arkansas River Canyon on US 50 between Cannõn CIty and Salida.)
After starting trucking, I ran back and forth between St. George, UT and Denver on a weekly basis. Even in the winter I loved that drive through the canyon and over the top. (Yes, I mean over the top. I usually ran high cubes, so had to go over the pass rather than through the Eisenhower Tunnel.)
