"Please call an hour before...."

Shoot, we couldn't even GIVE pallets away. Two or three times we had guys coming around asking us to save pallets for them. We'd save them, but nobody ever showed up to get them, so they ended up in the dumpster...
Of course this was before there was a local pallet outfit here.

 

Most of my IKEA deliveries are inside delivery, white glove service. Thankfully it just goes into a room and I'm not required to build it. The biggest gripes I hear about with IKEA is the BOL states the pallet and debris must be left at the curb. This irritates a lot of customers.

The things I hate delivering the most are fire-safe cabinets. They weigh like 500-1000lbs and require inside delivery, white glove service, and yes I've taken one up stairs. That was a grumpy hour. I've gotten good at rasslin 'em off the pallet and onto my pallet jack. I also have a helper with me at all times so I can't ##### too much haha.

The customers I really piss off are when in the BOL it specifically states curbside or dock delivery only. And when their house doesn't have a dock I drop it on the curb or the end of their driveway and have them sign. Dont't want to sign? Then its going back on the truck and have a nice day! lol

We deliver a lot of hot tubs and jacuzzi's and those are always curbside. A lot of customers think we are there to install it lol. And if they want it in the backyard its $325 (Company policy) in my hand before we even talk about it.

Those pre call 24 hours can be impossible at times especially when it only takes you 5 hours to get there an 24 hours won't even be complete by the time you get there

 

Yeah, a whole lot of folks are totally clueless about the real world...

 

That's when you hand them the keys and invite you to show you how it's done. I've shut a couple of people up that way.

 

No way would I hand some jackarse my keys. What are you going to do if he jumps into the cab, and then wrecks your truck for you?
I'd be more than inclined to tell them that "using someone else might work out best for BOTH of us."

 

Never done that. But I like stealing a line from my otr days where they said once you sign for a product it's yours.

So if someone gets really feisty I let them know there product belongs to me until they sign for it. Works. Every. Time. No matter how mad the customer is.

As an ltl carrier I have no idea if it works the same as OTR when signing for product at a shipper but they don't know that lol
