I wouldn't remove the bed. if your worried about length buy the over length permit.
Sounds like you're just starting out? In six months you may be wanting a bed back on your pick up
I use super cab truck for that reason I can pull a 40 foot flat and still be under 65 foot.

ive been hauling cars about a year now, love it...just picked up a 53 ft flat bed, got a guy who wants me to haul his RV's on my trailer, so will do that one way then gtrab cars on the way back...plus at some point would like to look into freight.... so bed has to come off in order to fit the flat bed...i will still have the bed if i ever want to put it back on....im tired of the wedge trailer, reaching up there to tie off...also, your 40 ft flat bed wouldnt get me three cars on the way back, only two, so that wouldnt work...

Just a suggestion did you look at the taillights sold at Walmart for boat trailers that can be submerged?
