So if you could please, let me know if your running with a cat, Detroit, or Cummins, and what the engine model is. This should let me know what type engine is most prevelant, a.k.a. reliable by the numbers still left out there.

All kitties with the exception of the newest addition to the fleet and that is a cummins. All 475+ hp (most of them are 550) the range from a 1994 3406e to a 2010 C15. We also have one C16. All are 18 speeds ranging from 3.90 to 4.11 rears and all rated for 46k. All but one truck has a drop axle and 2 of them have 20k pushers. My truck is the only one that has never had anything major. c15 867k and nothing more than valve covers have been cracked open.

Cat C-15 6nz. Bought new in 2003. Head gasket blew at 447k. New head and 2 pistons and liners. $8500. Cat paid $8000. That extended warranty cost $900. Good investment. Engine has been trouble free otherwise. Replaced an oxygen sensor, turbo at about 900k.
1.1 million miles now.
Drove pre-egr Detroits before that. I would take either. I like Detroits slightly better, but the Cat is dependable. -
Cummins N 14 select +500 hp 1850 torque

A friend is driving a Kenworth with a Paccar engine. He said he woke up and started the truck. A bunch of emission related warning light came on. Top speed 5 mph. Got it towed in. Fixed in one day. Covered under warranty. About 223k miles on truck. His first time having a problem.
