Hi, I'm going to attend a community college (Harrisburg Area Community College) which has a 240-hour program. I currently have a class B with passenger and air brake and school bus. I almost pulled the trigger and went with Sage; however, it's only 150 hours, and I want hiring options with good companies that require 240 hours. Also, I want all endorsements and tanker, etc. I've been searching and searching truckersreport.com for the good companies that require 240 hours as a prerequisite for hiring. Is there a list like this somewhere? Thanks for all your help; this is a fantastic site!

Be wary, a lot of schools advertise high hours however a fraction is actually spent driving

Has for the endorsements, keep in mind doubles/triples, tankers and hazmat, are just written tests. I say that beacuse you can study that stuff yourself, and take the free practice tests online. If you can get 90s on the practice tests, you'll have no issues with the written test.

Not sure where you are out of, but check out the list of SRE companies on the Manitoba Public Insurance website through the "Entry Level Truck Driver Training Program". They all require the 240 hour program and have excellent mentoring programs.

That's how I got my job.

I went to a local community college that had a 320 hr course, night time driving,250 mile trips and countless backing exercises and none of the beginner trucking companies seemed to give a rat's @ s s

Hell, I have 3 years experience now and the Great company I just got on with still schooled me on how to hook to a trailer, fuel, back up,and do a pre-trip..

It isnt so much hours driven. As hours driven doesnt mean squat if you were sitting stopped at traffic congestion. Companies want to know miles driven or how many months with what ever company worked. Most good local companies will require years driven before hiring drivers.

Case in point. I have 5 months driven, yet only 21000 miles driven. Most drivers here will turn 10,000 miles in a month going OTR.
