Most of the bigger companies will send you home from orientation if it is over 140/90. They want you to be able to have the two year medical card so they don't have to worry about it for two years. I saw more than a few people sent packing at orientation because of this.

Blood pressure varies a lot in just a few minutes time. Learn how to meditate on command and exercise will only help you lower it. If it is seriously high and always stays high, you need to see a doctor about it. It really is the silent killer and being a driver, and all the sedentary activity, only makes it worse.

I hate taking any kind of medication and haven't had to for almost 20 years. I want to try to lower it naturally. I also think the reading was high because i just walked into the store and sat down at the machine i didn't rest for like 5 minutes.

Those automated machines are not very accurate so I wouldn't stress about it. Ask your doctor/nurse to check it with a manual cuff/stethoscope to get a true reading.

Cut salt and caffeine as much as possible. I have had borderline high BP for many years even when I was much younger and a healthy weight. Ever since I got serious about getting back into trucking I have completely eliminated caffeine from my diet, I don't even drink caffeine free soda, because I don't even want to continue the habit that may cause me to lapse into drinking that stuff again.

I have been able to get my BP down to a more comfortable level now (had my Dr check it 3 weeks ago), but I do still worry about a company physical not checking it properly which would lead to another borderline reading and possible med card issues.

All the flax seed and magnesium won't make a difference if your sodium intake is above the recommended daily allowance.

The way salt is added to foods these days, unless you actively seek out low sodium options you are mostly likely well above the RDA for sodium.

I tried a few of the "home" remedies, garlic tablets, potassium, magnesium etc and none of them worked for me.

Is it a case where once you are on the meds you are stuck taking them for life and can only get a one year card?. That is the main reason why I want to avoid medications at all costs.
