You're right about sodium intake but i read from several websites potassium rich foods like bananas counteract the effects of sodium.

"Sodium, along with potassium and chloride, make up the major electrolytes in the body. Each of these important nutrients is required for normal bodily function. Sodium, in the form of salt, is abundant in the human diet and excessive intake often leads to high blood pressure. Luckily, there is an inverse relationship between potassium and sodium that you can utilize, as a way to reduce the sodium in your body. As potassium levels rise, sodium levels decrease and vice versa. Through the consumption of potassium-rich foods or potassium supplements, you can help eliminate some of the excess sodium from your body."

Websites are where I got the info about garlic tablets and potassium also. Taking those things probably work for some people, but it didn't for me. There only needs to be a marginal effect for some researcher to claim that XYZ supplement works, but that doesn't mean it works effectively enough to actually make a difference to your blood pressure readings.

The only way I could lower mine was by cutting out caffeine and drastically lowering salt intake. I don't smoke or drink alcohol either which was the first thing my Dr asked me when I went to see him about lowering my BP.

    Basically:

    Don't consume-
    Salt
    Caffiene
    Alcohol
    Tobacco

    Do-
    Maintain a healthy BMI
    Exercise regularly.

That's what he told me, but to honest, I knew all that long before I went to him. I don't have to pay for Dr visits so went anyway to see if more could be done.

It is very telling that they don't list the quantities of sodium that can be eliminated and the quantity of potassium needed to accomplish it.

All they need is 1000mg* of Potassium intake resulting in a 1mg* drop in sodium level to qualify their statement. If they are even remotely connected in anyway to any entity selling supplements then I reserve the right to completely disregard anything they have to say. :)

    * I pulled those numbers out of my...well...thin air.

Not exactly right, if you are on blood pressure meds you are automatically restricted to a one year card. I should have read further before I replied, I see someone else made the same comment. My bad.
