I could be a rookie or a 40 year vet I'm still going to get out and look especially in situations like this. No excuses

 

No shame in asking the warehouse guy to watch your blind side either. Pride doesn't mean #### when you get fired.

I really feel bad knowing there are a lot of guys and gals out here who simply never really learned the key points required for successful backing. It may be their first week or month out solo, and the idea of arriving at a truck stop well after dark, with only one tight spot available must make them sick with worry, all day long. It's no wonder we see so many who simply park along fire curbs or in the bypass lanes next to the scales when there is ample parking. They are simply afraid to back and will avoid at all cost.

Most of us takes things for granted, but try and have some consideration and understanding of the new drivers and the world they must live in. We can do backs and make it look easy but for those who were improperly trained or simply can not be trained, things may never improve for them before they either give it up or get fired, whichever comes first.

I can not imagine coming into today's trucking world with few if any trucking navigation and maneuvering skills and having to "figure it out" under difficult and demanding circumstances that are widespread today what with everyone who's in a hurry to get to the next stop and sandwich.

That's exactly why when I was a trainer I tought class in a long hood 379.

Got many phone calls from former students after getting in their aero trucks saying how much easier it was.

 

That's me man. I'm crapping my pants if my pull-through spot is too tight!!!

 

^^ Wife was born in Nassau County, NY. I've been to the boroughs with her, and also in my truck a few times more than I've ever wanted to. Driver, your pull-thru spots are tight EVERYWHERE in your neck of the woods (or non-woods, should I say?) !! Hang in, man. It comes naturally after awhile. It truly does.
