I don't know.... I took a Cummins N-14 to 1.4 million with no more than overheads and one injector being replaced. Did 30,000 mile oil changes using Kendall 15w40 and baldwin filters. No bypass. That engine still would get 7 mpg and use only a gallon of oil every 7,000 - 8,000 miles. Wish I would have kept it. My last truck with an ISX got 25,000 mile OCI's and never had an oil related issue. Not saying each and every situation is the same, but there is something to what the OEM's are suggesting for oil change intervals. And even Cat shows 30,000 mile OCI in the maintenance manual for the C-15 in all but the most severe conditions. Even the severe interval is 20,000 miles.
But to each his own. Everyone has to deal with their own comfort level. And a consistent oil sampling program is a good way to confirm if a longer duration is safe. Me personally, I gave up 3,000 mile oil changes on my autos years ago, and I gave up 10,000 mile oil changes on my trucks in the early 90's.

Bruce Mallinson of Pittsburgh Power is a CONMAN. I am local to his area, and he burned us for $20k for a supposed custom Pittsburgh Power 600 horse 300Cummins rebuild. It blew up after 5000 miles. When we tore the motor down, all the HI PO pistons and parts he supposedly custom made, well, they werent there. Stock cummins pistons. That con turned up the fuel pump, thats all. He turned a stock rebuild into a $20k conjob. The truck blew black smoke from the day we got it back and ran like ####. NOBODY in the area here will do business with him, he is a con man and a scum bag. Unless its for a big money pulling truck or NASCAR hauler, he will screw you any way he can. There are 3 fellow truckers, including the wrecker operator who towed my truck home who he took for a ride. Guy is a low life. If you got crazy money, he'll kiss your ###, if you are a hard working trucker, trying to support a family, he'll give it to you in the ###. STAY AWAY!!!! I'm curious as well to what blew apart on Freight89's truck. We built a STC444 several years ago using his parts and I can say its the strongest and one of the best running cummins engines I have ever been around in a working truck. I do agree his prices are not cheap and we did the build ourselves but I think he was pretty knowledgable on the engine we did. I also have a. PPbox for a cat. When they came out there wasn't much else available to the cat guys. But its out dated technology now days and there's better alternatives out there now.

Just went to them recently. There were 6 other O/O'a there besides me..All of them had to come back many times within 2 or so months for BAD / SHODDY work that Pittsburgh had done to their trucks. Most of the people there have arrogant, nasty attitudes. Their truck maintenance work is of poor quality generally - you will probably have to return several times for items that should have been do e right the FIRST time. Their only niche is doing power upgrades, NOT in general truck maintenance work. Find another shop for your truck maintenance needs. DO NOT drink the Bruce Mallison Cool-Aid ! They're scheisters with a propaganda machine unless your doing a power upgrade.areelius Thanks this.

Don't believe all that you read, call and price a cam for a 855, if it's around $4-500 you can bet it is aftermarket.
A lot has changed with the price of factory parts in comparison to when he wrote those articles. -

Priced a new oil pump for a big cam, $ 1,245.00 at Cummins. $ 1,100.00 at World Wide. Stuff is not cheap at all......
