As a younger man I was an athlete, climbing some bad ### mountains, frozen waterfalls, and rock walls into my 30's. As I got into a desk bound career in sales my diet and activity suffered. When I got back into trucking a few years ago my weight increased by 35 lbs to 45 lbs overweight within six months.
When I took a private (non CDL) physical after that I was shocked that my blood pressure jumped to 135/85 and had approached being borderline diabetic. I had a RESTING heart rate of 72 bpm. He recommended I start taking medicinces. That was the moment that motivated me to get serious about changing my diet.
First thing I did was eliminate added sugar and excessive salt from my diet. The bulk of what I ate was fresh, uncooked fruits and vegetables. Within six months I dropped 45 lbs. The last physical I took, at the age of 59, my blood pressure was 120/70 with a resting heart rate of 58 bpm.
I haven't been sick in three years, since changing my diet. I haven't taken any medications nor have I taken any vitamins or supplements.
If you drink soda pop, stop. Stop eating food that is prepackaged. Most "convenience" foods have an amazing amount of added sugar and sodium. The more sugar they add, the more salt they can add to balance the taste.
Include high quality oils and fats in your diet. I go through about a pint or more of olive oil a week. I do use sea salt.
I've never felt better in my life. Even as a young athlete I ate wrong. The exercise masked some of the bad effects of a less than optimal diet. As an old man I now get into the elements in extreme weather securing flatbed loads, without getting sick.
Do some research on Google to educate yourself, search the following:
Sugar: The Bitter Truth
Human Microbiome
Bottom line can be summed up as "It's the fiber, Stupid." As much as possible eat raw fruits and vegetables. Cooking breaks down the fibers and destroys vitamins and minerals.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
That really isn't that high.
My sister, if she isn't on meds, has a bp of over 200/120. She was that way for years.
Even on meds it is over 135/85.
They make SUCH a big deal, just like the sleep apnea stuff.
It'll KILL you!!!!!
And there are so many other factors involved that lead to ones death or life that have nothing at all to do with certain numbers.
There are people that have been smoking for 60 years, yet never get cancer.
Yet my mother died of cancer when she never smoked a day in her life, or drank heavily or anything else that leads to an early demise.
Much of it is simply your DNA. That certain combination of good with bad mix.
Heck, I experienced a couple hernias simply because it was written into my code. My brother died of a time bomb in his head that resulted in a stroke, and it was simply waiting to happen since his conception.
The doctors are only interested in one thing.
Passing out drugs and getting you hooked on them. Machines in the case of apnea.
They want to earn their big bucks by scaring everyone into seeing them very often, just to do more tests that 'studies' show are necessary for our well being, and then prescribing even more meds.
The doctor I just went to, just to renew my bp med, showed me a list of perhaps 10 tests that were 'recommended' for someone of my age.
I told him that when I felt bad I would come back to check it out, but no random tests just to see what they wanted to see wrong with me.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
This is so true. Doctors have no vested interest in curing you.. they put you on meds and tell you to come back in a few weeks. THEY USE PEOPLE LIKE AN ATM.. Everyone should read (DEAD DOCTORS DON'T LIE) The medical milking machineLepton1 and Moosetek13 Thank this.

Hypertension leads to stroke no joke no fun. You need to see a doctor it is easily treated with variety of meds and life style changes. As said sodium intale, exercise and losing weight help. It is a serious problem please take it that way

I just watched a youtube video of a guy just starting out and his bp is 188/93 and he is on bp meds he is a big dude. He just arrived yesterday at the hotel and today he is getting the physical. If he passes i should have no problem. I checked today now its 139/93 at walmart. I drank a can of coke right before the test though. I dont drink caffiene hardly ever. If i drink soda its ginger ale no caffine low sodium but i know it still has sugar in it.

Hope you dont have a heart attack stressing about this!

Im not stressing about it at all just concerned because i really want to drive. The dude on youtube just passed with a 1 year card his reading was 138/83 after a day before he said it was 188/97. How it dropped 50 points overnight is amazing with his bp meds.rachi Thanks this.
