Thank you to everybody for your responses. Is there a particularly good place, like a website, to shop for old rigs? From what I can tell from googling, it seems like offers are spread out on sites all over the place.

A couple years ago watching a foreign news site, saw a Prime tractor crossing the border from Russia to Mongolia. Couldn't see the trailer well enough to tell if it was dry box or reefer. The truck was probably stolen and put on a merchant ship heading to Russia. Lots of stolen cars leave the states that way through Miami.

I figure it's just like the car market: 60% get new (Camry leasee), 20% try to keep that old bucket going one more year (3rd/4th Saturn SL owner) 10% sink a respectable amount of time and effort keeping their "classic" rolling (57' Chevy or 32' Ford guys)

It's what you put into it, that you get out of it.

The hoods are ripped off in truck stops or they get stuck under low bridges. Then they are sent to a retirement community. Normally it is a gated community where the trucks can spend all the time they want relaxing in the sun shine.

Here on the prairies a lot of them wind up being farm trucks. There is a business in my town that converts highway tractors into tandem grain trucks. Even truck models with integrated condo sleepers, they cut off the sleeper compartments, remove the fifth wheel, add hydraulics and a grain box. They do a pretty nice job on them.
