Ok so I am a lease Operator for a good company keeping me in 1500 to 2100 a week checks after fuel and truck payment and insurance.

Now a good friend of mine joined me and we made a team, bringing in good money now, about 1800 - 2300 per after everything. Although apparently my teammate has a friend ( a good friend of the family ) that is telling him he is making 3k checks at celadon expedited fleet and in June he is going to go Port runs.

Now here is what he was told.
He will make all local runs no more than 50 miles
he will make 600 dollars every 3 load or 200 a load, at 1200 a day for 6. Bringing his annual gross to 288k a year. And home every night and off weekends.

I looked on the net and found most port drivers that are owner ops are making between 100k to 125k a year.
the company he will be with is owned by Celadon and is called Eagle Logistics, and they are opening a new yard for the LA port in Fontana CA in June to Aug.

Problem is the numbers sound to good to be true, I am 38 and he is 26. He hasn't verified the pay through either Celadon or Eagle Logistics. He wont listen to me cause his friend of the family seems to know more since he is working for Celadon.

Can anyone shed some light on this that has experience in this field of trucking so I can get an idea if I am overreacting or if he is just not paying attention.

NEED help ASAP thanks Drivers for all your help

Ask about waiting time. If you're not paid waiting time and only get 200 a load you'll be here 14 hrs depending on terminal..

Also 6 loads on a friday highly impossible also onna Saturday since they work about 8 hrs minus 2 hrs of lunch. They're selling you a dream not to mention 200 for a 50 mile trip is LOW... and 6 loads a day? You'll be on e long you will NOT do it. Trust me. I do 6 day and that's running the clock to 14 hrs on a good day. Usually its 5 movements in 12 hrs and loads take 3 times as much as empties. I do this daily and you won't pull those loads especially from maersk or evergreen on a friday

We had a run that was about 11 miles one way. It paid $225 round trip. We could, on a good day, do 3 trips.

If each run is 50 each way, and that's about how far it is from LA to Fontana, that's 600 miles right there.

If you sit down, and just drive, no work, like hooking up to a trailer, etc., you would be lucky to get 500 miles!

Turning 6 roundtrip moves is unlikely. Turning 6 loaded moves in Southern California is downright a pipe dream.

Between the waiting at the ports and the 100 mile round trips, you may be able to do two trips on a consistent basis. Even if you run your hours illegally it'd be tough to do much better than that on a consistent basis because of the two hour breaks they take and the fact that they close before 2am.

All trucks must be in the terminal before 2am. If you don't have your container by 2:45am, on the dot, they shut everything down and you're sent on your way.

One night I'd been waiting for 7+ hours, I was next in line, the clock struck 2:45... Had to bobtail out.
