@Hurst what's that company you once worked for around the Tacoma area? Think they would give this guy a chance? He just needs a few months then can move on. I know it's less than desirable, but "any old port in a storm."

Spaghetti sauce wasn't it? I'm glad to see you back, man.
You may need to avoid megas and drive for a 1099 outfit for a minute to get a foot in the door. Then start looking for more reputable companies.
Again, glad to see you back around and Good Luck.
-MarkOONewbie Thanks this. -
Thank you very much for the information, I appreciate it. Looks like I have several apps to fill out this weekend. Be safe out thereChinatown Thanks this.

I would also try the mail carriers, MCA and there are a couple more I can't think of their names, plus local dump trucks, gravel trucks, landscaping business hire for the season until the weather gets bad, but mostly again, dump trucks.
Plus the TA in Troutdale has many owners of one and two trucks that use the place as a terminal. See if some guy from Russia wants an English speaking driver on his payroll. Seriously.OONewbie and White_Knuckle_Newbie Thank this. -
I thought he was helping him....If your going to party hardy and drive a truck, there are some consequences in your future employment. Maybe he helps the next guy that thinks he can beat the system by doing drugs with a CDL.White_Knuckle_Newbie, chopper103in, HalpinUout and 1 other person Thank this.

I dont wish what I went through with that maniac on anyone. No one should have to endure that kind of abuse.
Sorry,.. I can not help regarding that company. Last I heard he had to down size due to insurance problems stemming from bad CSA scores. So doubt he could even if he wanted to.

Well I got to thinking, yes the insurance angle is true, but still most of the mega carriers are self insured. So why is it more advantageous to hire some one with no experience and train them? Money and lots of it, the government gives them money, they charge a small fortune just to get a CDL, and other expenses that go along with getting it.
And my hats off to you, we all have made mistakes in our past, not one of us is or ever has been perfect. So the best of luck to you on trying to change your life and become a better person.

in 12 years of doing CDL work it's in my blood now, I made 1 bad choice a year ago, that shouldn't mean I should never be able to drive again, I know plenty of drivers I've heard of having DUIs, man-slaughter charges etc that are driving trucks.. So at 42 I'm supposed to learn a new career over 1 mistake?
-
I began my trucking career at 55.
At 42 you are very well young enough to start new in any career that you have an aptitude for.
Heck, I was near 40 when I first started as a computer tech, and I did that for 12 years.
And yes.
This is one line of work that can end very fast with 1 'mistake'.
If Swift and those others won't take you, your only option is with a little garbage outfit.
Good luck with those, as you won't have the support you need.
