First off, I've been trolling this forum for awhile and I've seen a lot of great information. I'm trying to find a way to support our small family owned construction company when things are slow. During our season we run two side dumps, three bellys, and two dump trucks with pup trailers. We also have two low boys for moving equipment. During the winter our trucks are pretty much parked and we spend time and lots of money in the shop. Our tractors are newer day cabs and we maintain our equipment very well. We are located in northern MN approximately 5 1/2 hours NW of the Twin Cities. Long story short, does anyone have any advice on how I could bring in some extra income when things are slow? My Dad's been in the business his entire life, but got off the road and worked hard to stay local when I was born back in '82.

Lot of small saw mills north central mn. We pull lumber from a lot of them. Start knocking on doors and see if getting a cheap flat bed and move the lumber for them would generate some $

Thanks for the ideas guys. There's an edible bean mill not far from me that ships exclusively in containers, some going to Canada, some goes to the cities. I'm also fairly close to Potlatch and Norboard so I could give that a shot too.

If you are close to Fargo you could do some sugar beet hauling from the dump sites to the plant, no field work.

We're located in Crookston and have hauled lime before. The problem is we don't have tarps on our trucks. From what I've been hearing, there will be fewer farmers spreading lime or less of it up here as they're claiming it's not as beneficial as they thought and most up here haul it themselves anyway.
