HORSE MANURE.
Don't cheat on paper and you won't have a problem.rocknroll81 and basketcase64 Thank this. -
The new regulation states that ANY movement must be recorded, so we are lucky to get that. Fortunately the Teletracs unit we use doesn't start the drive line retroactively back to the moment it detected movement like some do if you let it automatically change status.
However if you leave it in drive line accidentally when you stop, like to check in at a customer, it will go back and log on On Duty after 5 minutes back to the time it registered the vehicle stopped, which it kind of helpful for a few minutes of drive time saved. -
What a joke.
Every time I see a mega carrier driving down the shoulder of the interstate at 10 mph I think, "Yeah that's safe".Last edited: Feb 28, 2016
magoo68, rocknroll81, basketcase64 and 1 other person Thank this. -
If you were legal on paper logs there would be no difference, I feel that even a great attorney would look like a fool turning paper logs into a witch hunt and coming up with nothing.basketcase64 Thanks this.

Unless your location is way out of whack to your hours. i don't see how ANYONE can say you're not supposed to be there.
There's too many variables. Such as weight, horsepower, governed speed, traffic, etc. Any one of us could be within 100 miles of where they THNK we should be. -
The mega carriers have calculated that they can save millions of dollars by not having office staff audit logs. Additional savings can be gained by hiring unskilled drivers that can't manage time. Problem is, they have to pay for this fancy hardware and software. Why should they be the only ones to pay? "What if we all get together and lobby the Gov't to make it mandatory. That way ALL the companies will have to pay. Even the ones with one truck, never had a log violation EVER and never had an at fault accident EVER".
I can understand if a company has a history of log violations....sure make them get e-logs. But a safe and compliant carrier should not be put at a competitive disadvantage because the megas want to save money by laying off staff and hiring idiots.
My safety device is behind the wheel and he is paid accordingly. GPS tells me where he is and I know when he's supposed to shut down. WTF do I have to spend money on E-logs?Last edited: Feb 28, 2016

You are correct with that, the 20mph and 2 minutes was in every Qualcomm I had to use and even goes back to the 90's with the Cadac elogs that I had to use. Heck, my last Qualcomm would not allow me to go into drive manually, one time I had to go on duty manually and drive 3-4 blocks from a truck stop to the customer.

The latest elog mandate to come out basically say unit must back-date drive time to when movement began after a certain threshold IF the engine is never turned off.
However there are still ways to conserve drive time towards the end of a drive session and you can still move around at a receiver or shipper and not break your 10 unless you work at a carrier who's safety dept is just stupid and not familiar with the real world.Last edited: Feb 28, 2016
