So to recap, the guy that started this thread only lasted less that a year and a half or so at Big G? LOL, I got a chuckle when I finally found where the OP says he doesn't work there around page 44.
Big G caught my attention when Kerry Knight, the Executive Vice President (who, in my opinion, looks like he should be a magician with his strange goatie) popped up in my Facebook news feed.
He was advertising that the Majority of its drivers average only $54,200. Only 61drivers made over $60k and only 206 made over $50k. With 491 power units listed on
http://www.safersys.org/query.asp?searchtype=ANY&query_type=queryCarrierSnapshot&query_param=USDOT&original_query_param=NAME&query_string=580685&original_query_string=BIG G EXPRESS INC
It would seem almost half of thier drivers make less than $50k. Possibly even more than half if the 61 that made over 60k are counted as part of the 206 over $50k. To be fair, he did preface the statement that this was only drivers that worked a full year.
They would have to have one hell of a BBQ or 3 for me to cough up the $18k more I make where I'm at. That picnic I'm sure would be fun though, they have a lot of odd looking drivers on thier Facebook page.
With a title of Executive Vise President, at a company with less than 500 power units, that should be enough to tell you where the money goes in this employee owned company.

I just quit last week. I was there for almost 3 months. It's not a bad company to drive for. I just did not like the Volvo I drove, the DM that treated me like I just got my CDL 3 weeks ago. The multiple short haul loads that turned almost everyday into a 12+hr day. I did not care for all the Northeast -Midwest freight, but that's just me. I also was shorted several times on my pay but that was the DM that I had. This company has it's good points and bad like they all do. If I was to rate this Company on the A to F Scale I would give them a C+
They do get you home when you request time off and the benefits are above average for this Industry.
They are phasing out the Volvos and they do have plenty of freight. Unfortunately it's not in the area that I care to drive in. Best of luck and safe driving to all of the drivers at BIG G EXPRESS. -
I really dont understand your purpose in posting here. The op only left to return to Dart and lease a truck which is what he used to do for 10 years.
i have been here for 1 1/2 years and enjoy working here.
The reason so many drivers make less than 50k is because they only work monday thru friday which is a majority of the drivers here.
I go home every other weekend for 3 days and made 59k last year. You can make more here if you want to but most dont want to stay out.
This is an irregular route regional carrier with a heavy emphasis on the northeast. This is not for everybody but i dont mind.
I drive a KW T680 and will probably be getting a new one before long.
The benefits are great which is a plus for me and i get home when i want.
I for one am very happy here and plan on retiring with Big G.
if big g is not for you then that is fine....xlsdraw and Air Breeze Thank this. -
Why did you go there knowing they do the northeast heavy?runningman0661 Thanks this.

Ok, I'll check in on ya in a year. In the mean time I'd start looking into the management structure at Big G. You guys are a perfect acquisition for a Swift.
-
We are a 100% employee owned company so i dont think so..and more so you obviously dont have a clue what you are talking about.runningman0661 and xlsdraw Thank this.

You are right, I haven't a clue.

I know if I was an employee/owner I'd be questioning the value of a Executive Vice President position.Last edited: Feb 28, 2016

Did you actually try to tell us you made 70k at barr nun.....thats ridiculous
-
Not here no, but yes I made $69k in 2014 and $71500 2015.
56cpm + band pay (about another 2cpm average) + 4 quarterly safety bonus of $525 + 14 paid days off, paid detention, stop pay, etc. If you compare that to they way Mr. Knight gets to 47cpm it would be around 63-65cpm (Total income divided by miles run)
And I take it back, it seems everyone is a vice president over at Big G, so that title may not mean a lot of money is being spent in that position necessarily.Last edited: Feb 28, 2016

I know tow, and I respect his opinion, so I gave BIG G a try. As I said it wasn't just running the Northeast that made me decide to leave although it did play a part in my decision to move on. It had been awhile since I had been up there since SEC didn't run the Northeast. I'm not even sure I will stay in Trucking any longer. I've been in this business for 20 years and I don't see it getting any better. The pay is not what it should be and the increasing micromanagement and control by DOT bureaucrats has made me realize it's time to do something else before I'm to old to do anything else. I think my time and efforts are worth more then Trucking has to offer me anymore. I'll keep my CDL and Physical current if I ever do decide to give it another try, but I'm doubtful I will as things are now.
