OK,
Sorry I interfered. Buy your dually. Go heavy, go long, be sure you are adequately insured so when you can't stop it, the people you hit are covered.
Carry on.

To my knowledge there is no overlength permit. So good luck with whatever you decide. At least you are smart enough to not buy a brand new dually but a used at auction.
I ran my dually for a little over 2 years and 200k miles and I honestly look back at that now as wasted time. And I now hate anything that has Dexter axles. You'll see lol -
Some of you said that they wouldn't start this venture in this economy . Realize that regular van freight is slow and rates are low recently . Is car freight slow or just low rates at the moment ?
-
30K is not my dream! But calling most of the shots myself, and only answering to a few people is priceless, especially with how people are literally losing their minds these days. Me and my family have worked from home, while homeschooling, for almost 13 years now, together 24/7. How many families can do that, or even stand each other like that? To me that's a huge accomplishment. We have no family close, and couldn't rely on them anyway. So yes, we can live on 30K, but the wife makes 80k working from home, as a medical coder/auditor/supervisor. I'm not looking for an OTR gone from home 70% of the time, so if I'm a hobby guy, then fine. I also still invest. Just going to make another source of income, being diversified, that I can do 4-5 days/week. Van freight actually hit an all time low comparable to the size of the economy, just last month, or maybe it was December. Trucking always slows down before the economy does, but this isn't a normal economy. There are too many strings attached and being pulled, as I said in an earlier post. The US and world's economies are heavily manipulated, and completely linked. Auto freight is in heavy demand here in TX, and heavily populated parts of the country, but the rates have been low for what at least 8 years now? Any day you can log into CD and see 400 cars intrastate in TX, but yes most are no more than .60/mile. Somehow those cars have to be moved, and auctions penalize buyers for letting them sit there. Dealerships are cheap and evil, but evil can still be negotiated with for now. Remember I used to sell cars. I can speak All languages including BS, sales, redneck, and elitist, so I know at least what I'm dealing with, at the dealerships, customers, and selling my company to them. Just don't want someone else in charge of me anymore, even though customers are in charge, yes, but like my neighbor, he has clients, which have become friends. That's my goal, plus he's retiring soon.

I would love to see your neighbors tax records taking home 75k. I bet they don't exist. -
Anyways..to answer your question. You are limited to length laws as long as you have any kind of bed on your truck.

So I'm simply looking to be the one calling the shots, and to make more money than a hobby, and my investing, since I'm ultra conservative there. What jobs/careers do you suggest? Oh, by the way. I know what my neighbor means now when he said if you're pulled over by DOT, and you get a different officer every time, you might have different opinions every time, on enforcement. I contacted TXDOT, and found more info on the length limits. 3 different contacts, 3 similar answers. "We don't enforce that much, some enforce that, there is a permit, and it's $900/year, it's $75/year, Just don't speed, or have a truck/trailer that looks like it needs to be pulled over, and you won't get stopped in TX, but especially not for a truck/trailer that looks normal like all the other ones going down the road, except the ones that need to be pulled over and parked." These are all statements I heard, or was given, but not opinions from the other forums I found. Is this what kind of a crap shoot it is out on the road with DOT? ChrisTerry270 Thanks this. -
skinnyb01 Thanks this.

Yes I know, and agree with the economy thing, but the rates in TX have been this way for so long, and the cars are still moving, and people are still making at least some money. Of course I have my goals, and start up money is the biggest thing, and my start goal of $20k might be unreasonable, but that's a good thing. Just how flexible do I want to be. I used to be around those VW/BMW dealerships, and they make money. I made 85K selling cars, but remember the corruption, power struggles, and personal agendas I mentioned......enough said! Problem is I just eliminated probably 75% of all careers. It's a tough situation. Thanks for the reply. Chris
