in order to go to $25/hr from...say $15/hr, that would be an increase of $10/hr x 55 hrs/week = $550/week increase in pay to the driver x 52 weeks = $28,600 annual increase per driver. If there are 3.5 million drivers in the US, then 3,500,000 x $28,600 means you have just increased the cost of goods by 100 billion dollars.

Is there any wonder that business and government is colluding against you? Why would they pay you more when there is an unlimited supply of eager bodies literally dying to get over here? Safety? Don't make me laugh.

    Yes. You are delusional.

$13.85 is a lot better than what I've seen.

Before I found the job I have now (not in trucking), I interviewed at a landscaping company. They wanted someone to drive their early 2000's KW with 53' flatbed. The driver would be hauling materials and equipment like skidsteer loaders and backhoes to their various job sites. The ad stated you needed at least 3 years verifiable experience and construction industry experience was preferred.

Sent them my resume, got a call the same afternoon and had the interview the following morning. Everything went great until I asked what the pay rate is. He told me that they budgeted $11 per hour for that position.

$11 ####ing dollars an hour? Seriously?

Sad thing is that I've run across quite a few of those. The worst one, by far, was a medical gas supplier. The ad for that one stated that the "successful applicant" would have a minimum of 4 years tractor-trailer experience, hazardous material and tanker endorsement and be able to operate a 13-speed manual transmission.

Same deal with that one..sent in my resume, got a call a couple days later, and interviewed the day after the phone call. First question the interviewing manager asks me "How much you looking for per hour" and I told him "Well, since you're requiring 4 years experience plus the endorsements, I'm thinking about the $19 - $21 range." He said "Yeah, that's what I thought; we can't pay that much". When I asked how much they paid for the position I was expecting something like $14 or $15.

    Nope.
    $10 per hour.

Been there... It's like that in my area too. They want experienced drivers w/ clean record but will only pay a laborer's wage. You can't raise a family on that, lest you don't mind living in poverty. This is why I stay out a fortnight, I dislike being away from my wife & kids, but at least we can afford a modest lifestyle.

$500 x 52weeks = 26k. Thats not 32k, but closer to 32k then todays 39k average is to the inflation adjusted 150k that we would be making if things were the same otherwise.

Millinials might not have had it rougher when it comes to trucking, but they will have it much tougher considering the financial disaster the baby boomer generation has dumped on them.

Great post , those jobs are there , I had one when I retired in 2011 from GSF. But , you've got to keep yourself , and your record squeaky clean to first get those type position , as well as keep 'em.
